I am putting my gas tank behind my rear seat in my tudor sedan and I am looking for some ideas for the fill neck and and gas cap on the out side of the car. I have a few ideas myself but would like to hear our see what you guys got. Pics would be great.

I don't think there is a good looking place unless you run saddle tanks under the running boards on a Model A sedan

I don't like the idea of the tank hanging back there like a Pinto either but I am building a 29 2 door highboy on bobbed 32 rails and this is what I am going to do. By buliding a tank that goes almost all the way across between the subrails, under the base of the back seat and making it about 1 inch taller than the seat riser I think I can get about a 15 gallon tank. The bottom of the tank will be exposed to the road underneath and I will seal the passenger compartment with plywood. For the filler, it will run upward to just under the beltline to a sheet metal box with one of the gas caps with the flip open hloe to stick in the gas nozzle. That box will be small enough to be covered by a flip down license plate holder. Sorry no photos as this is all still in my little brain. Just remember when building a tank 1 cubic foot equals 7.5 gallons liquid.

We ran the filler neck out the side of the one I done and it just didnt look right so I filled it back in and just fill from inside the car now with a plastic gas jug.

  8. What about behind a taillight or license plate.
Filling it with a jug has got to be a PITA

I'm planning to do an undercar tank, over the rear axle. Thought I'd mount one taillight on a gas door, hinge at 12:00. magnetic catch. Modify the door slightly smaller than the light, no one would know.
May have to mount the lights a little on the high side, but not too bad. At least, thats the plan.

I plan on using a filler and grommet from a pickup truck through the body on my Vicky, high on one side. Cheap, simple and it should fit the early 60s look I'm going for.

  12. I am just going to make a cap that will act as an extension tube and you can just put it on to fill through the back window, take it of then replace it with the regular cap.

I used a tank out of a Honda Civic and the gas door too. Neat installation and the gas door blends.

I used a boat filler cap. It is close to the body, has a chain for the cap, and screws on very easily. The only down side is I should have looped the vent line higher so gas wouldn't pour out if I fill into filler pipe too high. Cap could be painted to blend in better.

Here is mine. Tank behind the seat with a kris kraft boat filler neck. Make sure you have plenty of fall from the filler to the tank or it will be a pain in the ass to fill.

I bought the 15 gallon universal from "gas tanks" that says it fits behind the seat. Welded brakets to each side and mounted it to the frame angled to match the sweep of the back of the car. Then made a rear fire wall with a removable center section to access tank, lights and battery. Only had to give up about 5" of room overall.

  25. i,ve put the gas tanks in two model A tudors in between the frame rails and used a chevy van filler located just under the rear window to fill both tanks . didn,t like the idea of gas tanks hanging off the rear or just behind back seat in case of a rear ender. works well . can send photo,s if interested. craig

I went the same route but mine is in the other side, but same height. I used a 67 Chevy truck filler neck and running a 17 gallon aluminum tank from Summit.

i've been toying with the saddle tank mounted on one frame rail. (maybe both) also been thinking about the problem of filling. has anyone successfully tied in to the original cowl filler after removing the tank bottom? i was thinking i could run a filler tube down the passenger side kickpanel and out the floor to the tank. i've been thinking it would work good but now seeing it in print it sounds like a pain.

I have always though if I ever built an A sedan that I would build a tank and use it as a seat riser for the back seat bottom cushion. That way the tank would have a little protection.

Flip tops are very cool, but I'm not too interested in the generic boat ones that have "GAS" cast into them although the can be had brand new for around $25. The Monza ones are neat too. I scored a smaller flip top on ebay, similar to the Moon ones that's going on my truck. Older Triumphs and 60's Chargers had flip tops one as well. The clean older truck round ones look clean. You could even take one of these rounds ones and put an older Ford tractor radiator cap (below) on it too.

Thats a neeat cap Tailgater, I agree the generic boat ones are funny looking with "GAS" cast into them. The Kris Kraft ones are a lot cleaner looking. The cap is large enough that the edge of the cap covers the flange so you see nothing buth the cap, and there is nothing cast into it. Not sure if still available but I think Repops can still be found on Ebay in two different diamaeters.
