I spent some time running down some newer vehicles an old farmer had stuffed away. I know he sold a couple to friends but then got particular about getting rid of them. Well he finally died they held an auction and all those particulars disappeared. I never got to the auction as most of the good stuff was hauled away long before that day. I remember a 34 Ford stored away for years, tried buying it several times, well the son-in-law finally got it fix up and drives it sometimes. I heard abotu an old cord but never found it after snooping for years. I wish I'd find something that didn't settle back to the earth. All the good barns and places near me have burned down or been displaced by new houses. A few of those barns went up with some fine cars in them. I still keep an eye out for a hidden treasure.

I posted the pics of the 34'. A few years ago I witnessed 12K waved under this owners nose. Nope, not for sale for no money!!. I like the sentimental angle. I've got a tractor that my Dad bought 60 years ago. How could I ever sell that?!

That might be me some day. My barely O/T Olds convertible was the car I got married in, and took my wife on many dates in. Since being married we drive it often. That car is family now and not for sale for any amount of money. My son will inherit the car eventually but not until I'm unable to take care of it.

Because theft is still against the law, and may get you shot and buried in the woods in many places.

I got a buddy like that with tons of old hot rod parts that his kids will ebay out after he`s gone. And all he does is complain about how broke he is. Go figure.

I have a little motorcycle that recently have become collectable. its been sitting as a wreck for years, most of the parts in a milk crate, and have turned down realistic and even unrealistic offers on it. When I moved here a long time ago it was my best friends bike, we went everywhere on that thing. I bought it out of his shed because when I look at it it reminds me of a time when I was young and my lungs were full of fresh air and my whole life was in front of me. When people tell me that I should let someone else restore and enjoy it I roll my eyes. It occurs to me that those people want it just to have it, with respect only for its material cost.

Some of you have the right idea, others should watch Citizen Kane for a reality check.

This thread may be a year-and-a-half old, but I just ran onto it and read every word. THIS same debate has been waged numerous times, mostly going nowhere.

In surprising contrast, here are quite a few excellent viewpoints expressed, dispelling the seemingly age-old rants, e.g., some old, "undeserving" s---head is WRONGFULLY withholding decent 'rod or custom material from those who would do something NOBLE with it.:rolleyes::rolleyes: One joker even openly advocated STEALING somebody else's property:eek::( (and, apparently, was humiliated by enough jeers that he withdrew the post).

I'm proud to be a HAMBer;), but I'm not proud of, nor will I defend, some attitudes and practices espoused -- unfortunately, recurrently -- by a few HAMBers:confused:. I really appreciate the positive comments of several HAMBers (speaking from obviously different experience and philosophical bases) that should inform even casual observers that the HAMB is a group of people, many with families, interested in keeping the nostalgia of trad rods & customs alive -- and making some occasional noise and going fast.:) With some apparent, occasional exceptions, we're not "outlaws" -- not in any legal sense.:p At the risk, of omitting somebody, I really thought spot-on perspectives came from RickyBopp, 37Kid, JoeDoh, RustyNewYorker, ArtFromBama, 29Nash and TemperMental, among others.

IMO, this is the BEST THREAD EVER :D on this subject. Most of the others came to no useful conclusions. This one's a HAMB gem:cool:, and I have never been more proud than today to be associated with this great forum! I may have discovered this thread late, BUT I'd recommend a read -- or a re-read -- to anybody else who may have missed it first time around!:)

  17. No, I just don't like assholes. Which that guy is one, someone with a bunch of time on their hands could do a search and they'd find more examples than I can count of him trying to start shit like this was the Ol' School Rods board or something.

Thread didn't really need the bump back to the top.

RNY, sorry if it put a burr under your saddle. I thought it the BEST I'd read on this recurring theme and recommended a read to those who had not seen it before. I spoke highly of several thoughtful posters, you included. Nothing to get riled about, my friend.

bummer! It's cool that he still digs it and doesn't want to let it go, but he should take better care of such great car! maybe you can talk him into covering it up and keeping the coons out at least. I'll bet if you bring him a nice tarp and help him secure it he will surely appreciate that you care about it. And if he ever decides to sell it you might be the first person he calls. Ya never know.
