Since I'm addicted to swapping cars all the time, I find myself a little envious any time I talk to someone who's still got the first hot rod/kustom car they ever owned or built.

I'll start, not mine but belongs to my friend and fellow Poorboys member Sparky. He's 'jalopy43' here on the Hamb. Sparky's the real deal, a dyed in the wool car guy.

Here's the shoebox Sparky and his dad pulled out of a So-Cal junk yard. He was fifteen years old when this was taken.

And here it is today -mild custom, fade job, drawer pull grille, flame throwers and still flatty powered (with overdrive). I don't know Sparky's exact age, but he just retired from the local GM plant after almost 30 years, so you do the math.

So, any of you guys still have your first? I'm only talking HAMBworthy stuff here! Before and after pics would be cool too.

I got my 37 coupe in 1978--guy said it was too far gone,so he was gonna crush it. 37's weren't too cool then--nobody wanted em. Paid $800.00 for it with a new engine and trans---still got it today--over 100,000 miles on it.and still going strong.

Hey Hank37! Show 'em your '37 Ford coupe! Check out his profile, guys. He's had his '37 Ford since at least '59! It may not have been his very first, but 50yrs+....wow! - Rick

    Here...I'll show it to you.

I've had my '40 Ford coupe since I was 15 (1967). Hopefully, it will be back under its own power soon.

My 29 roadster has been in the family since 1954. Dad bought from the original owner.
He modified it in the sixties, and I've kept it pretty much the same. Took my original drivers licence test in it, first date, and its the first car my kids learned to drive with me. When I get more familiar with the site,I'll post some pics.

  10. Still got mine. Got it when I was 17 or 18. That would be 18 yrs. It's getting it's 4th engine/tranny combo in a few weeks.

My dad let me and my brother purchase a '28 Ford roadster when I was 13, Jim was 11. We would work on it all the time and dad would help us as long as we left "HIS STUFF ALONE"......Dad's gone, Jim too.........I still have the car......sits a the shop most of the time. I even kept the DMV moving permit dated 7-21-59. I've had a ton of good times in that car and met some really nice people along the way. Hope you do the same.

I still have the '51 F-1 I built in High School 12 yrs and 32,000 miles ago. Of course it has been rebuilt a couple of times since then, and will probably be rebuilt a few more times before I am done with it.

I give you the first "Walts Puffer" This still exists and has the same paint as when first applied in 1959, the first ever to go a 'buck fifty' to set the world record at 150.00 MPH 50 years ago this past Thanksgiving...Now only used at Hot Rod reunions and cackel fests

The 54 Ford looked as shown since 1955,,...I had great parents and did most everything because of them...in fact I towed the Fiat with the 54 and also my 62 Vette...

i envy those who have been able to hold onto a car for years and years and years. i always say "this one i'm going to keep forever" but then the reality sets in that i can only afford to have one or two at a time, and something else ALWAYS rolls along.

I have one I'm gonna keep forever now. But I gotta say, that shoebox is 100% badass. Love the paint, the stance, the grill, the whole thing. I would love to see the interior too. And the story makes it that much more awesome. Thanks.

There's so many cool cars out there, so little time to own all the cool ones. To still own your first car is an amazing thing to me. Is the grass always greener on the other side, yes! if you fertilize it. Meaning you make sure your next ride is as nice as the one you sold.

    CRUISER
