My neighboring homeowning in-laws won't be thrilled, which is exactly why I'm towing it home Sunday morning while they're at church (then we'll be out & about all day). Have had my parts '57 F100 in storage since I scored it a year and a half ago, got it mostly for the original frame and rear fenders, a few other parts being saved for a future project.
Haven't been able to get much done on the main custom in the garage down in Eureka, at least can chop things up 'n prep the frame at home in the long dirt driveway @ home. Plus, it'll be more incentive to get rid of the rusted-shot cab while moving forward. The inline-6 300 will go for a future Bucket T project, along with the steering and bed-to-be-chopped. Excited! To get stuff actually done again!
    Imagine.

It's better to ask for forgiveness than permission. I've also found it to be a much bigger deal to piss off your spouse than your in-laws.

My in-laws are a PIA. They are always dropping little nasty comments whenever I do something car wise. I don't really care, it's none of their damn business what I do. The bad part is they don't usually don't bother me because they know I'll blow them off, but they like to give my wife a hard time when I'm not around and then I get to hear about it later. Too bad. I figure it this way, I can either enjoy myself and play with my trucks or I can sit around and bitch about the world like they do, I'd rather enjoy myself.

I've got it good I guess, with any luck I'll be building a 56 ford pickup for my father in law. He's trying to hammer out a deal while the current owner hammers out a bit more bodywork. Coolest part could be that the beginning of the build looks like it'll happen in an airplane hanger.

As Crusty Nut can testify, my in laws are really cool, good people and I do get along with them very well, they're car people too, having run a local cruise-in for over a decade. But it gets under my father-in-law's skin when I bring a "junker" in when he works hard to please the landlord cleanin up the property and I understand. I figure this is better than rollin it right past his window when he's home (learned the hard way). But it is what it is, and I was damn sure to ask the mrs first, it's how she & I work. We'll go daytrip into the hills, let the steam subside.

  7. Hey Tim, Matt's right, it's easier to ask forgiveness, than permission.
Been working slowly on the Tudor T, floorboards, exhaust, gas tank, fuel lines, top wood, and some other small stuff is done....

Timing is crucial on these deals. You have to pre-plan for the neighbors vacations, darkness, work schedule or something. I've learned a bunch of tricks and now have cars here that none of them have seen yet.

    That's a much later engine if it is a 300cid I-6, like 1965 or 66.

I can just say , my in-laws hate me and i've only had em for 7 years. It's going to be a long lifetime. Just kidding, my mother-in-law only hates me. Get the father-in-law in your goods and your set. He likes me more than his daughter b/c i'm into cars and bikes. I'm always having to work on his FXR. Finda way to get in good with the dad and you're set.

im a lucky one too. for one thing i employ my mother-in-law. about half my salary goes to her for looking after our daughter during the work day... so let her say shit. my father in law lives about 1000 miles away, but is a car guy. he was just out for thanksgiving. put him to work thursday, with me, on the new 63 galaxie fastback. we were out there spinning wrenches all day. later inthe weekend went to the bone yard to score some parts before hitting up a huge car show. great weekend with the old pops-in-law. he's got a 54 ford f100 custom and a 55 buick roadmaster in the works. thank god one person in that family is cool... other than the old lady of course.

Took my mother in law for a little sideways action in my modified. We live on a dirt road. She squealed like a 16 yo. I don't get any in-law grief.

My in laws are great, my father in law is one of my best friends. The 55 in the garage in my avatar is his. He's an awesome influence on my oldest son too.

convinced my inlaws to buy the cars they wanted. so my mo-in law bought a 74 Corvette and my Fa-in law got an 06- not exactly my cup o tea but they are fun none the less. And my mo-in law and I used to be at each others throats contantly, but with a car commonality we get along.

I get along great with my in laws. When my father in law was alive he always told me to quit messing with the old junk, and buy a new buick and I would be happy. So I went out and bought a used new to me 55 buick 4 dr hardtop, and drove it home while he was visiting. I called him and told him I got a new buick. I don't think that's what he meant. :)..John

I brought a motorcycle home in the back of my pickup late one night without warning the wife. It was too late to offload it, so I just left it there expecting the fireworks to start in the morning.

The next day she left for work and walked right by it. She never noticed it. I put it in my offsite storage, fixed it up, and six months later rode it home. Then I told her the story about the day she walked right by it. She laughed so much that she forgot to get mad at me.

Don't get me started on my mother-in-law,or the 'Rotweiler in lipstick' as I call her.
The woman has an opinion about everything I do.She's one of those people that talks a lot yet says nothing!A real pain in the ass. She's never liked me and vice versa. That is until she wanted to buy the cottage next to our house from me.She was kissing my ass until I told her I'd rather burn the fucker to the ground than live next door to her.
That might sound a little harsh but,if you'd met her, you'd understand!
    Rant over!

They are IN-LAWS !!!! If YOUR hobby causes them to become OUT-LAWS so be it !! If your wife doesn't support you and your hobby get rid of her too.............

  22. That's some funny sh!t right there!!!

And here I thought that I was the only one who thought it odd that my father in law and brothers in law all like to lay in the woods in the snow & rain waiting for a deer to walk by so that they could blow its head off, but they can give me hell for enjoying digging around in my old country junkyards looking for parts...

I have always said that my wife has better in laws than I do!!! (She still smacks me every time too.)

Funny thing is that we have made money on darn near every one of the 125+ cars & trucks that we have bought & sold over the 25 years that we've been married, but they don't seem to notice that part. We always get the "What are you going to do with THAAAAAT?" (as they roll their eyes...) It got to the point where I would turn off the lights & lock up the garage as soon as they pulled into the driveway and wouldn't let them in the garage or behind it when they visited. My wife thought that it was humorous, but they sure didn't. Who cares!

I don't drink, smoke, gamble, do drugs, cheat on my wife or beat her, so what the hell else do they want!?!?!

I've learned to ignore their comments and to not answer their stupid questions any more, and it's a lot easier.
