Is there a commonly available Ford tie rod end with the 7º stud taper, but with 5/8"-18 thread rather than the usual 11/16"-18 thread? The only ones I've found with a 5/8-18 thread are GM parts, and they do not have the same stud taper as the Ford end. Found nothing in a search here. I did find that So-Cal has them in stainless steel, but $100 for a pair of tie rod ends ain't in my game plan. Bob
try rethreading the 11/16 to 5/8. I used to do this before I bought (expensive) 11/16 tap. Seemed to wok fine .... I might have a couple I used for free if I can find them you would need to pay the shipping from Canada tho ....
I checked with them. All of their Ford tie rod ends have the usual 11/16-18 thread. Maybe I missed something. Got a part number? Bob
Another thought. Buy a Helicoil set for 5/8-18 thread. The tap is correct for Ford 11/16-18 thread plus possibilities for other repairs.
did any one come up with anything on this?? im having this same problem. speedway does NOT sale the 5/8 tie rods. only ones that i found are so-cal for 50 bucks a pop.
no, the ford truck tie rods are larger. i have some and they wont fit in my tie rod sleeve. i may just send the sleeve back and get the larger sleeve. i just dont want to drill my spindles for hiems
Guys, This is an old post, but I am in the same boat. Does anyone know what year or part number at NAPA might work for a 5/8" - 18 tie rod end with the Ford taper? Thanks, Jerry
I think you should look at the small fords; Falcons comets of the early [60/65] years..How ever while the taper may still be 7° it may be smaller dia and sit too deep in taper hole..
Does this help? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/tie-rod-threads-part-and-oem-applications.95063/ Go down to Unkl Ian's and read his post
Pleased this thread got resurrected as otherwise I'd not have seen this suggestion which I think will get me out if a minor jam. Thank you, I'd have never thought of that! Chris
