I bought this light a while back at a garage sale. Is it an old cop car light? It is 6 volt, and works great when hooked up to a 6 volt power supply. Its pretty cool, but have no idea what I'm gonna do with it yet!

  3. Does it make a difference how much that they paid for it as to whether or not it is an old cop car light??? Hmmm.

It LOOKS like one! Maybe Google the name of the company and the model number? Nice find!!!

Not sure what it was used for, but it is *** kickin, very cool metal I.D. on it. Could have been for any emergency type vehicle. IMO value, up to about $50.00, my 2 cents. ~Sololobo~

I think it's a gumball dispenser. Look for a slot to put a nickel in.

(great find! patent number dates from the early 50s?)

Looks like the kinda light that Kojac would throw up on the dash when racing to a crime scene. Or maybe it is what would get put on the roof of an unmarked car, possibly missing the magnetic base? Cool find!

Federal is a sure nuff supplier of emergency lights even today. I think there is a mounting base ***embly missing. Paint a 64 moredoor Galaxie black & white, slap that on top and call Barney Fife

Thats what I was thinking... it must be missing the bottom of the base to mount it on the car.

As mentioned, they go by the name Federal Signal nowadays, and still make lights for police cars and ambulances, a**** other things. http://www.federalsignal.com/

looking at the base of the light, the way it is shaped points to an ambulance.

My very first experence with a flashing red light was a speeding ticket right here in Anderson,South Carolina on Whitehall road,,,ticket was $17.50,,all the money in the world

At that time the police cars and motorcycles, fire trucks and ambulance all used red lights,,,early 60's,, HRP

Indiana state police used very similar beacons till the late 70's. These lights in good condition bring good money!!

we had same looking lights on all our emergency vehicles at gm. nice find and should be worth whatever you think is worth.

  30. Obviously, I thought so, too, as that is the only thing I kept from my late ambulance - the "Beacon Ray" ID tag off the light...
