I need to build a small spray booth for airbrushing and generally small spraying jobs. Has anyone built one about 3x3' or 3'x4'. What kind of fan can be used to pull out the fumes, and what is the easiest material to work with?
are you just trying to keep the fumes from getting in the shop area?with it being so small it would have to be open in the front.if so you would need o HUGE fan capable of moving enough air to keep overspray inside it.i have seen some walkin styles and the whole back is the air intake.
one of the biggest prob.is filters and exhaust.if you make it a box with only the front open{sandblast cabinet}i think you can take a blower from a house furnace or whatever.but is this going to make it hard for you to paint?the smaller the front opening the less cfm blower you will need.i am not a math wiz but if you take what ever size opening and you figure out what the cf.opening is that will tell you how big the blower you will need.
Thanks for the help going to start looking for some blowers and go from there. Oh yeah your Opel is the shit, keep dem wheelies going.
thanks.you should be able to buy one pretty cheap.i know i have seen them at swap meets and garadge sales all the time.good luck.
I have made several "desktop" size models for friends. Both were set-up to pull air thru a standard bathroom fan (fart fan) and the associated ducting. In fact, all of the fan/duct components were purchased at Home depot. Neither of these had filtration on them, they were purely made to pull the overspray and fumes out of the room. We made the actual boxes out of thin aluminum sheet because we work in that stuff daily, but you could make the box out of plywood or even cardboard depending on how nice it needs to look. Google search "airbrush spray booth" and a few pre-made ones pop up. This one looks pretty nice: http://www.dickblick.com/products/paasche-hobby-shop-spray-booth/ Good luck and post up pictures if you make one.
I forgot to mention that a whle house fan will pull way more cfm than a bath fan and are generally quieter too. Good luck.
