I was wondering, does anyone here know if the instruments in a 54 Ford truck are compatible with 12 v. without a voltage drop to 6 ?
    Thanx,Tim G.

every heard of an 8volt battery?...good battery shops will have them...not walmart...it will give you better starts and will not effect the 6volt stuff...

What exactly is that supposed to mean? Maybe you have an answer that is a little less cryptic.

We're way past being able to consider 8V.

Any one else have any input?

    Thanx.

I dont remember where I saw them but I once saw a resistor to drop the voltage so you could use all your 6 volt stuff with a 12 volt system. The only other issue I wonder about is if you have a positive ground system now and want a negitive ground with an alternator you may have some issues there. to be safe I would use the resistor on all the gauges.

most ford gauges used 6 volts as even into the 70's ford used a voltage regulator to drop voltage to 6 volts. we used them for years on 12 volt conversions. check it out.
