heres my deal, i have a car for sale on ebay. i do not accept bids from out of the U.S. but i do have a guy who is interested (or so he says) from friggin isreal of all places. says he will pay for the car through paypal. im not familiar with how paypal works. i told him the only way im releasing the car will be when i have cash in my hand. should i just stay away from this paypal deal???
from what i know pay-pal is one of the most secure ways of transfering money.it will prob.cost you 3% though.also it prob.going to cost this guy 1-2 grand for shipping if not more.if he is willing to set up shipping than why not.if you have your pay-pal acct.set up to go to your bank than it will be in there in about 3 days.hope this helps.
I sold a car to the Netherlands about 2 years ago. I did a wire transfer into a bank account I barley used ( a couple hundred dollars in it ). I have been told this is the only safe way to do this. I gave a detailed description of the car and sent lots of photos. Due to the language barier he payed me a additional fee to arrange A company to get it to Jersey to hop on a Boat. He arranged the shipping from Jersey to Norway. I was a nervous wreck about it but it went smoothly. I got my Money and the car was on a truck 2 days later. The guy finally took ownership in Norway about 2 months later. Good Luck
Not being rude but do a search on "overseas" as this comes up nearly every week and has been dealt with to death. Direct International transfer into an account is safest for the seller.
Yes, have sold many. Call your bank and they will give you the routing numbers you need to give the buyer to do a wire transfer to your bank. Make sure with your bank that the funds have been received and cleared and in your account before you let the car go. Hope this helps. Barry
I shipped one across the border to Oklahoma one time. Few problems with communication but we worked it out.
From what I hear, if you use paypal, the buyer can eventually dispute the purchase saying the car was mis-represented and you will lose the funds in paypal without recourse. I'd do the direct money transfer. r
dont use Paypal for something like this- Do a direct deposit- Paypal, if it gets disputed will take the money back and give it to the buyer with little or no evidence.
I agree w/ Raven, I sold a 75 or something T bird, was my aunts, to this loony out in Iowa. He went through it and found every tiny blemish and the "auto experts" at paypal made us give money back. What a joke.
You can only retrieve cash from paypal account 499 bucks at a time, once a month. Or leave it in there & spend it on other purchases. Then, if there is a dispute by the buyer, whatever is in there will be frozen...........
Search this subject, and you'll find a pretty lengthy thread dedicated to selljng to overseas buyers. Theres some good info/suggestions, and the occasional horror story.
You paypal account can be customized and set up how you want it. You can change that $499 amount. Some people can withdraw thousands at a time if they want. But I also agree with Raven on this one.
First step would be make absolutely sure you have him blokked as a bidder on your Ebay item. Or you can block all foreign bids which i think you have which is just as good.
Stay away from the paypal.I sent a set of Harley wheels to Sweden and the guy said they were junk, paypal refunded the money and I was out of a set of wheels.I just sold a hemi and a 29 sedan body to 2 different people overseas and did the bank transfer thing and everything went smooth.
If the guy has the money, then he can Bank to Bank wire transfer it. This should be the ONLY acceptable method of payment period. In this case, seller beware.
Dont USE PAY PAL, the stories about a refund to the purchaser are true and you have no recourse. I just sold a high dollar car to a guy in Australia and I have the money in the bank on a bank to bank transfer, I still have the car waiting for him to arrange transportation, SCREW PAY PAL. Larry
I sold a 41 Cadillac for a buddy off of Ebay and it went to Australia. Paid thru Pay-Pal everything went smoothly. But yes they are right about Pay-Pal giving refunds to customers before fully understanding the issues. This has happened twice to me. Sold an item AS-IS on Ebay and the guy said it was junk, requested his money back and Pay-Pal gives it to him! They are a joke but is a nice concept if they could work it right.
If he is really from Israel, he'll have family, friends, or friends that know someone on the east coast that can pay you in cash before you ship it...
Go down to your bank and explain to them what you want to do. Set up a new account specifically for the transaction. They will give you the info and routing numbers that you will need to send to the buyer. I sold a car to a guy in Afghanistan who was actually from Newfoundland and working in Afghanistan on a contract. He contacted his bank in Newfoundland and they wire transferred the funds to my account. No problems and the only fees involved were on my end where my bank charged me $10 for the wire transfer.
Don't forget the paperwork must match the car exactly, as in number by number ID, VIN, whatever you choose to call it. If it doesn't your buyer will find his car impounded by the government, maybe forever.
Sold a pickup to a kid in Australia. He wired the cash to the tow truck company and they showed up at my door to get my truck with a handful of green. - Joe
I have a quick related question.. Does the car have to have the Vin # stamped on the car or frame before it can be imported. The reason I ask is I'm about to ship one overseas but I never really bothered to stamp the title # on the car or frame. I have a title. Will this be checked? This is a Model A.
