I dragged my wife out to the shop last night to proudly show her the widened left front fender. Her response was "Gee, it doesn't look cute anymore, it looks too wide." Sheesh, I thought it actually looks better with the front fenders pushed out, looks more m***ive from a head on view, sort of balances out the vertical aspect of the front end. I think she has a hard time looking past the unpainted filler panels, whereas I tend to see it all painted

Anyway, here's a few photos of the front end, both fenders fully welded and clamped in place. Now, off to my buddys shop to return his shrinker/strecher and make the running boards!

Me thinks your wife has a good eye when it comes to trucks. I always thought that was one of the best looking models of early trucks around and tampering with the lines seems to throw things off proportion.
But when you have it finished it may be hard to tell that it was modified all that much.

"Do these pants make my *** look wide?"
"No, your *** makes the pants look wide"

Maybe if I saw a pic of the overall ride, I could see if I like them or not.

Still looks proportional to me. But then again everything about a Diamond T is BIG by HUGE.

Here's a "before" shot, and now. The front suspension is almost 8" wider track than the original, and I narrowed the crossmember 3", so the fenders have to move out to cover the tires. It looks great to me!:D

I like the widened fenders, I agree with you that they offset the tall verticle grille. One suggestion I would offer for your consideration..........maybe move the headlights in a little closer........

Brian, Nothing wrong with that truck. Correction, I should say "TRUCK !" . . . Looks good to me . Remember you are dealing with other than a 1/2 ton truck Good proportions.

Your wife is supposed to look cute, or, at least, that is what you should tell her. Your truck is not supposed to look cute, 'cause it is a TRUCK!

It was wide to begin with, but i think you right she does have a hard time looking past the unpainted filler panels. Looks good i like it.

I think it looks good. Not much throws off the looks of an early vehicle worse than tires hanging out past the front fenders.

Brian, if the tires don't fit the fenders , you make the fenders fit the tires. you did it right, and it looks great.

Amen to that. I like the tires right at the edge of the body, filling the wheel opening completely, and that's where this sets. I totally agree with moving the headlights back in a couple inches. Can't move them down without some serious fabrication, as the cast bronze mounts fit the fenders right where they are now.

I spent an hour or so at my buddy John's shop with his brake, making the running boards for the box. My initial plan was to have a separate set of boards, like old Dodge trucks, but that changed. I was able to reproduce the profile of the short Diamond T boards perfectly, so I'll weld the ones I made to the originals. The rear fenders will "float" in the end of the board, rather than set on them like the fronts do. I think I'll make step plates out of the s****s of diamond plate from the bed inside panels, and have my engraver buddy make some "Diamond T" inserts in red/gold.

Great look! Fender's and fanny's... in the eye of the beholder. When your gal asks if her *** looks big tell her, "No, baby, it's barely big enough!"
    A winner every time.

My wife went to work today with her key ring, and mine :)rolleyes:), so I was home alone all day with no wheels (well, there's the '36, the '48, and the '51, but the roads have been salted, and I'm not taking them out). I'd intended to go to my buddy's shop and bend the patch panels for the panels between the doors and running boards (they're lacy at the bottom) with his shrinker, but worked at home all day instead. Not like I don't have lots to do...

I fitted the drivers side running board, cut it to length and welded it to the original. Made a lip to fit the rear fender, and then fitted the box side panels with the mounting flanges, and got everything mounted up. Still have to make running board brackets for the box, but everything is now bolted together, rather than just propped up. Here's what it looks like:

The last one is a s**** of diamond plate laid on the board, which I'm thinking of using as a step plate. Corners rounded off, of course.

I like it widened... looks like a scaled down semi truck. I don't mind the headlights being spread out too... but seeing them closer would be cool too.

I like your truck and the widened fenders, overall it looks bad *** and it's different. I've always loved the Diamond T's and you have done this one justice. Post more pix as you progress, Oldskool says 2 thumbs up
