This 40 ford was found out in Texas and we have done some mechanical work and re wire the car. other than that the car was driven for the last few years but the paint had continued to deteriorate to the point of having to respray the whole car, we failed to get a shot before the painter started sanding on it but some of the lower shots of the car show how bad the paint was. we were able to locate some gold lacquer paint to use for this project and i think it turned out great the car was not completely stripped and the car wasn't made arrow straight just a repaint job. The interior is just like it was when we picked the car up just a little tlc and cleaning. I will try to track down a letter form the original owner and post it. Rex
Only thing I can see wrong is that its not in my garage....... looks like Sierra Gold from a '57 Chevy in the pics.
Nice job! I haven't wanted to paint my sedan because I don't want to loose the patina, but It really needs to be attended to along with a couple rust areas around the rear fenders. Way to go
Damn! How did that 40 get out of Texas and me not know about it. LOL. I love 40's. What a great find.
Way to take a time capsule and just spruce it up without ruining it's origonal character. Well done. Frank
The car was built in the mid 60's the 327 3 speed tranny all came from a wrecked corvette the owner builder was Dale Manning from Fort Worth TX. The amount of chrome on the car is extensive to say the least any small part that could be un bolted and chromed was. the interior is in great shape the carpet even has a gold thread loops in it, and the glove box is lined with angle hair. You are corect on the color being Sierra Gold from a '57 Chevy. we have the car up on the lift i will get a few shots of the under side in the am. the story is that the front brakes went out on the car in the early 70's and that was the last time the car was driven. The car has nice write up about it in the book Cobra in the Barn. this is one of the few cars i have driven at the shop and it rides great. we have replace some of the rubber seals around the door openings and other wear related items. Rex
Congrats on a beautiful car. On stock 40's both windshield wipers point "awaY" from the center divider with the top tip of each wiper blade resting near the lower outside corner of the wondshield.
Is this Roger's car? I'm a little surprised you guys painted it. It looks amazing though. VERY nice work.
This is Rogers' car at first we wern't going to repaint the whole car just take care of A few problem areas mainly the roof but after seing the quality of the paint and knowing that the paint that was on the car was 40 some years old and has realy shown its age in the last few years it was time to repaint the whole car to prevent any futher problems. Rex
I love 39/40 coupes! That car is perfect in my mind. nice job on not going to far on the respray and not making it a resto.
Nice car: I owned three 40 coupes at the same time and still don't want one back in my shop. Good Luck with it Olie Olssen Seattle, Wa
Sierra Gold is a great color for a '40 Ford and it looks great. Also cool that while everyone else is faking patina, you instead opted for new paint. Good call!
we had to decide what was the best for the car, the car still has plenty of patina, but if we were to let the paint go it would do the car a great injustice the interior and the rest of the car is in such good shape the failing paint distracted from the rest of the cars history.
