Event Coverage Bonneville Speedweek 2009

Better late than never. This might take awhile. Hope you enjoy.
This was our first trip to Bonneville.
My Dad and I left Dawson Creek BC on Saturday morning and made it to Lethbridge Alberta the first night. Sunday we made it to Ogden Utah and we were in Wendover by about noon on Monday. We trailered my truck down as my motor is a little shaky.
We started to see a few cars heading the other way as we were headed west out of Salt Lake City. It sounds like the weekend was a bit more busy and we probably missed quite a few cars but there was more than enough for us to see for our first trip.






Starting to get pretty excited at this point.


We stayed at the Red Garter. We had booked a campsite at the KOA but we kept checking for rooms and ended up getting a cancellation.





The KOA Campground was right behind our hotel and the first person we talked to was a guy we know also from BC. He drove his his roadster down and his kids each brought a car too.

It did not take us long to unload and head out to the Salt.

We left the salt and went to eat. This place was great.











After eating we went into Wendover to the Nugget for the nightly gathering.

North of 49 crew car from Calgary. I heard they had some bad luck with their rpu. We never got to see it run.













This was a little different and very well done.

This is the car that spun.



Our umbrella was only marginal. Laying a blanket down on the salt in front of us helped quite a bit to cut down on the reflection. We did manage to escape without any sunburns though. While sitting here we met a couple of Aussies, Lenny and Ronnie, I think they said they were from Melbourne. The had flown over for the NSRA Nats, rented a van and then drove to Bonneville. We told them about the Spokane Goodguys show so they drove there as well before heading to Calif for the Pleasanton show the following weekend. It sounded like they had been over to the US numerous times before for car events and seemed to be having a very good time.

Poteet & Main Speed Demon. They ended up being the fastest car there just over 400mph.

 

We stopped and talked to Vern Tardel for a bit and thanked him for writing the book. He thought we had done alright with my truck.
