Howdy all. After lurking here every day for the past few years, I guess its time I finally poke my head out of my gopher hole. Im familiar with the drill, so Ill try to cover all the bases. My profile is already filled out, so I wont duplicate too much of whats already there. Personal info: Names Jeff, and Im in Edmonton, Alberta. Yes, its damn cold up here. No, I dont ride a snowmobile to work. 31 years old, married just over two years to the best woman on the planet. Shes not a car nut by birth, but shes supportive of my disease, and is starting to show some early symptoms herself. No kids, but were planning to start soon. I dont have anything in my driveway worthy of mention on this site, but I hope to some day change that. For now, I get my rod and kustom fix in scale plastic only. Im a custom guy at heart, and have always been attracted to the body styles that havent already been done to death. Sure, Id take a 50 Merc if somebody gave me one for free, but when I scrape together the money and time to build something, it wont be a cookie cutter. Why intro now after two years of registration? Recent newby Fatalistic_me (Brian) is a good friend of mine. He just picked up a 54 Merc Meteor that we intend to turn into either a killer little custom, or a colossal train wreck. Hes always been a go fast and loud guy, Ive always been a slow and low advocate, so this should be interesting. Were going to have plenty of question as we get deeper into this, so I figured I would finally make myself known, and hope to squeak past the intro police by hiding behind Brians Merc. Brian and I have been buddies since we were about 4 years old (no shit). We built a go-kart out of a rotor-tiller and a pile of scrap lumber when we were about 9 or 10. That thing was the hottest ride in grade five. Ive been hanging around here for probably closer to four years (took me two to figure out I could register without an intro to get to the tech-o-matic. Duh!). I remember when Hatch used to photochop damn near every car picture that was posted. I remember when GERM made sense (well, at least *more* sense). I remember when Cletus posted the first pics of his chopped roof (the man is a GOD). For what its worth, I think current state of the HAMB is a good thing. Sure, its lost some of its secret-club-house charm and feeling of close-knit community that it used to have, but if its the future of REAL hot rodding that were worried about, and the legacy of traditional methods, I say let them come by the hundreds. The scenesters will eventually die off, and the true believers will remain (pretty big talk for a new guy!). Thank you, Ryan, for making this place available to us all. You probably wont hear much from me except the occasional question or request for advice, but at least the obligatory intro is out of the way now. Consider the soap dropped, and let the (kinder, gentler) newby beatings begin!
[ QUOTE ] ...and let the (kinder, gentler) newby beatings begin! [/ QUOTE ] Awe, man. That's gonna be tough... Not many angles to attack? You have covered your bases. Only thing I can do is welcome you to the HAMB!
[ QUOTE ] ...and hope to squeak past the intro police by hiding behind Brians Merc. [/ QUOTE ] Awwww, the intro police won't give you any grief for that intro...that's about as good as it gets around here...and glad you filled out your profile...you DO know the drill. Now let's see some pix of the Merc...I have a soft spot for kustoms...Mercs included. FWIW, welcome... R-
Well Jeff, if you just face south and wave, I might be able to wave back! (well almost) Believe it or not, there are a number of Edmontonians here on the HAMB. As well as a whole "whack" of fellow Canucks. Welcome aboard.
To support Jeff's story, here is the proof in the puddin'... My intro, for your ref: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB1&Number=593828&Forum=UBB1&Words=Out%20of%20the%20closet&Match=Entire%20Phrase&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Old=6months&Main=593828&Search=true#Post593828

Hi Jeff, good to see you posting on the H.A.M.B. I've joined the ranks of 2.3 4 popper owners BTW. Still have your Mustang?
[ QUOTE ] Still have your Mustang? [/ QUOTE ] SSHHH!! Quiet, man... so far I'm scoring points, don't nix it!
Welcome Jeff. Very nice intro. I'm sure we'll all be glad that you're here. That Merc is just begging for a chop and a section like the Monster Garage Original Master's of custom Chevy. But that's easy for me to say 'cuz I won't have to do the work. LOL Have a great time on the HAMB, BDE
