That a real KQQL car. It has a somewhat exotic period look.

Well, all these gushing posts must be filling up your "I love me" wall, eh? I think this car is great. The before and after shots are just amazing. Congrats. Gary

Nothing I can say that hasn't already been said.
As soon as I saw that big ugly rubber bumper, my first thought was "Uh oh, this thread should be entertaining".

Beautiful finished product, wonderful vision, and incredible craftsmanship!

Now, if we could only do this to ALL rubber bumper MGs! LOL

Not only is the car cool, it's work like this that makes people like you 'mastercraftsmen'. I only wish I had a quarter of your talent.

    JayD

BTW How long was the build??

Since the cowl/windshield section of a car is the hardest to replicate and everything else forward and backward hangs or aligns there it is simpler to use the existing technology of a "real" car to base your dream car on.
Back in the 70s there was a popular car based on the MGB being built in California at an airport. The styling was based on the early Mercedes roadsters. Can't think of the name off hand but they were big expensive and built by a company headed by a Frenchman.

Great build and I really like it but I agree with others. It looked better in primer.

  15. To clear up some confusion..............Please don't attribute this build to me...I only found it on the internet. However, my 1962 Triumph TR4 has began to look at me like a deer at a carnivore convention.

  16. Excellent job! I just noticed the dimples at the back of the trunk where the MG badge goes. Amazing stuff!

  17. I've been seeing that car at shows around here for years. I always did think it was neat, and never really understood what it was until now. Thanks for posting this!

Wow ... not what I expected when I opened a thread en***led "O/T Car Done Right" ... that's a very cool car! (never thought I'd ever say that about a vehicle based on an MGB).

This is Dan Root. I'm in Kansas City....I built the Racine. I appreciate all the kind comments. There's forty step-by-step build pictures of the car on the following link:

The vision to see it and the skills to pull it off ! congratulations beautiful car!!

  24. I do like this car. And the craftsmanship is far beyond what I can currently achieve.

One rather small point, in my mind: the ventwings scream MG. Combined with the windsceen, the donor car can be 'seen' under the beauty of the finale. Would it be possible to eliminate the ventwings as has been done with early Fords?? In one construction photo, the 'wings are off, and the car seems to look more of a piece.

Please do not take my comments poorly - the car looks wonderful, and is a compliment to your skills.

Well done Dan, You hit it right on the head of the nail with the cl***ic coach built look on the roadster. The car has it's own personality and while not a copy of anything is reminiscent of a lot of 30's cl***ic vehicles.

I especially like the finish paint colors and the way you painted it. Even though we seem to have a few characters who think that any vehicle with a real paint scheme and shiny paint should be outlawed.
