Hey, I have the opportunity to put an offer on a 4dr Willys. What are these things worth? Thanks -busted49ford
A fraction of the coupes.... The front sheet metal is worth more than the rest of the body... Weld up the back doors and off you go.... Maybe I am way off base, but I wouldn't offer much more than $4,000 if you want a pretty good deal....
Is it all there? Interior parts, dash, all the external trim? I remember seeing a couple of bone-stock on the outside appearing Resto style street rods lately that were just magical. Perhaps you could go that way? Gary
I built this one back in 1978. Bought the complete original car for $350. No one wanted it, even to part out. Sedans have come a long way since those days.
I knew a guy that welded up the back doors and made a phantom sedan delivery out of a mor-dor! The thing looked good once finished! Just another idea!
I sold a '37 Four door in early September on behalf of my late brother's estate. It was a body and rolling ch***is, no engine or trans, and had a new '40 style fibergl*** front end ***embly. No rear fenders included. The floors were overall very solid, some repair needed at the left and right front foot wells. Needed everything.........just a decent foundation for a project. After being listed on e-bay, it sold for $2500 to a fellow in Iowa. By way of contrast, he had a '37 Coupe with '40 steel frontend and rear fenders and a rolling ch***is. Same thing as above, a good start on a car but needed everything (finish body work, paint, interior, gl***, running gear etc.) It sold for 9 times what the sedan brought. The coupe had interested parties from the NW, central Canada, Michigan, Missouri and more. Sold to a fellow 240 miles away in Missouri. Just information for your consideration.............draw your own conclusions Ray
Willys offered 2 door sedans, but they are very rare. Everything for the rear door was still in the quarter panel area, just no hinges. An old buddy of mine had one built as a pure g***er in Kingsville, MD back in the 70's. I've see a created sedan delivery, also up in Maryland, and because of the slanted rear trunk area, it really looks odd.
Not in 1941. It was the 37-40 4 door body which was slightly shorter and had no rear quarter window. The rear doors were welded shut and leaded at the factory.
I sold a steel front end, both fenders hood & center section for right at $4500- a couple years back. If the steel front end comes with the car, then You could sell the front end & have the rest of the car free if you stay within $3500-. Randy Fergusson makes a conversion to turn sedans into coupes / trucks. Carl Hagan
I had a 39 2 door sedan many years ago. The actually had an inner & outer panel to fill in the rear door opening of a 4 door body and then leaded the seams. The sedan in your photo is worth between $3-5000.00 in my opinion depending on condition & completeness. It kind of looks like the right front fender is missing, if so that will hurt the value. Offer low, you can always go up. If you build it leave it a 4 door, be different, most others would make it a 2 door or delivery. I have 2 4 door sedans, my g***er and a pro streeted 39 sedan, left them 4 doors on purpose.
Buy it and build it no matter what it's worth. I've got a buddy who has a 41 Willy's 4 door and it's had a picture in every street rod magazine. He painted it gray primer, red steel wheels, wide whites and he lettered it the old style way and it gets looked at everywhere. He loves it so much (and all the attention), he also has a 37 4 door Willys and he just bought a 41 front end to put on it. Right now the 41 has a 350/350 combo, but the 37 is running a 231/3 speed and he'll drive the daylights out of it come next summer.
A low offer can be raised, a high offer will be hard to lower. What type of seller, and how bad do you want it, or do you just think it's neat? tnrotter
