I didn't hear an Ouch! or a Motherfuc....., so maybe so. Probably still a little underwear cleaning afterwards though.
Don't know if I would have still launched after seeing that much smoke come up through the floor... Ok, ya I would have.
I had the clutch blow up in my SCCA road race mustang in front of the tower at CBIR. The scatter sheild held everything in place. The officials in the 3rd floor of the tower heard the explosion in the pack of 20 plus cars going by. We also had a clutch explode in the 85 Ford F250 tow vechile on the way to Road America. No one hurt but found out for one year only Ford put an 10" clutch behind a 460 in a 3/4 ton truck and that was all the bellhousing would allow. Proven Force built us a multi disc clutch to solve that problem.
Guy I worked with about 35 or so years ago exploded a clutch in a '65 GTO A piece of the flywheel came through the stock bell housing, took off the back of the radio and exited through the dashboard and stuck in the windshield.
and that's why dragsters have scattershields! I've heard stories about how catastrophic clutch detonation can be, but have never seen one... until now! I wonder if he still has a right leg, and how long it took to get the skid marks out of his britches?
