O/T New Cars Suck!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by **DONOTDELETE**, Oct 21, 2003.

  1. Driving to work on Monday my car lurched one on the freeway and then I had no gears. My auto ****** grenaded in my 2001 **** box. I had hoped to get away cheap but the cost is gonna be 2400 bucks. Funny how it works like that. I had 2500 in my pocket for my new hot rod. The gods just don't ever want me to have one!

A 2001 and no warranty? Check out the recalls just in case.

  8. sorry to here that jim there has to be a cheaper ****** for a pt cruiser than that

  9. Well even with a junk yard hook up at this point it would be 2 bills with NO WARRANTY. It was 500 for the teardown (that's already spent) a junkyard trans is 900 and it would be 500 to put it in (almost 2K). So for 2400 its all new gears, new converter and 36K/36 months warranty. The car only had 78K- and all of those were mostly highway miles going back & forth to work in nor-cal from so-cal. I just wish I never had this money ****ing pile of ****, but without it I would be out of a job- evil payoff!
I don't trust mechanics and this doesn't help. I really doubt it took out ALL the gears, but I screwed myself taking it to a "transmission expert" because I already had a bad experience at the dealer when I went in for "preven***ive maint." and they left all the lugnuts loose- knowing I was headed out on the highway when I left.

Isn't a Looser's ****** the same as a Neon's? I see Neons go cheap as of late. Might be able to get one of those cheaper, then part it out.

500 bucks to pull it and tear it down,I can see,but another 500 to reinstall a used one? The guy is bending you over the workbench..........If it's a Neon or a PT,it only takes about 2 1/2 hours to flush the cooler and install a used unit......(I have been doing NOTHING but Mopar's for over 30 years)I don't blame you one bit for going with the re-man unit from Chrysler. That 3/36 nationwide warranty is a hard one to beat. Just make DAMN sure he flushes that trans cooler out........

I think Skr8 is right, that labor sounds WAAYY too high. Are you sure it's not $500 for take out, check it out and install? That would sound more in line. Maybe call around, and get quotes-- they have labor books that tell them how long this stuff takes, so most shops should be pretty close price wise.

  14. My wifes car-2000 Olds Alero[lo hp quad 4] has been a real pain in the ***.....at the present time it is running- we have been stranded no less than 4 times with it. it has 80k on the odometer mow- it started at 11k- defective brakes- repl;aced on warranty- at 30k needed them again- at 75 k needed rotors caliphers and mounting brackets too! at 30k first fuel pump went out[in tank 320 dollars only get it at GM] at 49k second fuel pum and ign switch- at 72k third fuel pump and pressure reg at throttle body- we just got back from a 4000 moi trip with no trouble but to be perfectly honest we are afraid to go anywher in it for thinking it will puke.....does this sound like good service to you? thats what the OLDS "complaint center" told me- I told them to take their wife out at ten PM on a sunday night about 70 miles on each side of any town and leave her sittin in her car- and then tell me how she liked it......I wont buy NEW any more.

A friend sent this to me.

If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be

driving cars with the following characteristics:

    1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash twice a day.

    2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car.

    3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull over to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and! reopen the windows before you could continue.

For some reason you would simply accept this.

    4. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.

    5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive - but would run on only five percent of the roads.

    6. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single "This Car Has Performed An Illegal Operation" warning light.

    7. The airbag system would ask "Are you sure?" before deploying.

    8. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned
the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.

    9. Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.

10.You'd have to press the "Start" ****on to turn the engine off.

    Happy Trails,

    Mick

I was driving back to Indiana one day...and my 02 GMC fullsize quit going left.
that was fun. I had to help someone move in downtown fort wayne....not being able to go left unless I was going at least 35 mph.
    Nice.

    rack and pinion defect...warranty....
I got a really ****ty saturn rental car to drive though....mike enjoyed its donut capabilities.

Last year, my 99 Silverado with 50,000 miles on it, decided to start to stumble and hesitate. After about 3 days in the shop, because I am clueless when it comes to computerized ****, it was determined that I had one or two bad injectors. After talking to a family freind about this, he suggested replacing all 8 to make sure they are all fresh. (he is a GM troubleshooter) The repair shop said they could get the injectors for around $100.00 each...x8 plus shop costs tax and I am out about a grand. Thank god my dad is a retiree from GM, it ended up about $600.00 for all, his discount on parts was a great money saver. Needless to say I was still pissed, I purchased the vehicle to keep old beaters from nickle and diming me to death. No matter what you do, they got ya by the short hairs! [IMG] [IMG]

Hmm, my new Jap knees car has been flawless... and new mustangs can't even keep up with it on the freeway.

first sched maintainance? $88. Then just oil changes to 60k miles. 4 years left on the warranty, too.
