Being a (licensed) Street Rod doesn't mean it's not also a HOTROD!

I've got a R&C from '57 and it big bold type the article call this guy's '32 a street rod. BUT for all intensive purposes HERE, street rod refers the late model seats, tilt column, air, painted chrome, painted and smoothed running boards, v ****ed windshield, etc. Very nice car John, but HERE in HAMBland your car looks like a street rod.

    On with the '40s

Here's a diecast I redid as a tribute to BigRic's car, with my own touches...

    DrJ,
I was just having some fun, it is a nice car and I thank you for the kind words. I have had it for a long time, and without question, it is a street rod. 20 years ago, in primer and only a windshield, no other gl***, I had more fun with it then I do now. I grew up in the "John Milner" era and do know the difference. Its hard to not like a 40 coupe, whether it be pure traditional or not. The Halibrands on it are probably one of the last sets manufactured before they went belly up. My roots are in drag racing, so the car does run hard and I drive the **** out of it, but all that being said, I liked it better when I could wash the bugs off with Comet and scotch bright pads!

    I understand...

    completely.

Whenever I get to feeling that way about my '40 GMC "Street Rod" I usually get relief by driving up to any Malibu/Santa Monica Mountain Canyon road, preferably right after one of our occasional rains, and do some brodies and donuts in a mudslide covered road. Then cruise any local "cruise night" with all the mud intact.
Mulholland Highway. is a good one to remind you of what a Rod is for.
(You guys HotRods do handle more than just straight lines don't they?)

You just need to start stepping on the running boards,
    like they were intended for.
Then it'll become "driveable" again! [IMG]

Yea, I'm serious, throw away the rod duster, park it in the driveway ALL the time and use it for your primary parts and grocery getter... I do!
Actually I don't have much choice, since the only cars I own that run are the '40 GMC and a MGB GT, and with the Lucas the prince of darkness, that one's not much fun at night or in the rain. (Head Lights only work when you jiggle the switch just right.)

If your Ford was mine, I'd put an oval side mirror head on it instead of that rectangular "Vega" one, and glue some stock rubber running board covers on it, or better yet, Red and white Naugahyde Tuck & Roll running board covers. The rest looks *****in!! and then quit worrying about it lasting till your grand kids grow up and go get some road rash! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

    DrJ,
What would be the discriminator that seperates the two, Street Rod / Hot Rod? I posted the red coupe just for the reaction that I anticipated. Its a plus .030, 350, dual quads, good heads, comp cam, roller rockers and all the rest of the good **** to include a high stall converter, 350 turbo with a shift kit and an 8" Ford, 4:11 posi. Old school Edelbrock valve covers with Moon side breathers and a Ribbed air breather by Dennis O'Brien. I drove this car in the primer for 10 years before I decided to paint it and it will run consistent 12:90s........and it ain't a ****ing Hot Rod?

The style of rims/tires and the bright red paint make it appear more "street rod" than hot rod. The term hot rod has sort of drifted to the more old school styled cars that are different than the more modern street rods, which carry a more contemporary look. I know your car has Halibrands, and those have been around for a while, but your car also carries a more modern look to it than a '50s styled hot rod. Thus, your car may be termed as a street rod. Yes, it is also a hot rod. ****, am I even making any sense? I know at least one person might understand what I am trying to say. [IMG]
