    anyone grind valves on a lathe ? .....any secrets I should know about...

    I have. Using a tool post grinder and a collet in the spindle. L00 tapered spindle adn 5c collet adapter.

    Just verify at the stem, that the valve doesn't run out. I like to see .001 max TIR. Hard to get in a 3 jaw.

    we had done a set back in trade school using a jacobs flex collet chuck and a toolpost grinder. worked ok.

    The only way, if you are not in a hurry.

    I use a collet chuck. Carbide tool bit. no grinding.

    You can do all the cuts in one setup. Valve seat, thin the head, narrow the stem near the head, change the radius on the back side, tulip the front if you are so inclined.

    I've even drilled the stems, then put a dash of weld in the hole to seal it up. (for racing where aftermarket valves were'nt allowed.)
