Projects Bonneville Banger T project update...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by SamIyam, Dec 6, 2009.

  1. Been a while since I posted pics... but we've been plugging away on the Bonneville car. Thanks to Uncle Tim, Jamison, Roger, Jeremy and a few others who have stopped by to help out.

What you're about to see is what we have accomplished since Bonneville. Progress has gone in spurts... But it's picking up despite a few distractions I need to get out of the shop.

Steering rack mount is all done. We need to put a couple of stilts on it to mount the Moon tank up above it. The bottom of the Moon tank needs to be at about the height of the camshaft... just in case we ever go to mechanical injection. ;)

Next up is our pedal ***embly. You would be most impressed with Tim's file work on the pedals if you could see them in person. It'll bolt in, but we're waiting to weld the bung-plates onto the frame until we get the seat done. I am a stickler for ergonomics.

We even have a greasability feature in this thing!

And then there's Rodgers Seat. I put a few hours into it... but Rodger has over 100 in it so far... along with help from our carbon fiber guru Reza... and Don... The spine is patterned after a NASCAR seat and gives unparalelled spine and shoulder support.
This is half of it, as the other half is in the cooker... there is a lot to trim off from the center (about 3"), and upper edge. Then we are going to build a strap under the spine that will have spars. Esentially, the steel structure supports the driver, and the carbon fiber seat is for comfort. Totally overboard...

The shifter mount was a fun little project. It moves a standard Hurst 3 speed shifter forward about 10" on the Muncie 4 speed.

And then there is the ***-Saver(TM) drive line tunnel. Totally overkill... but it will contain anything a drive shaft can ever throw at it. 1/4" Steel wall... uh, yea.

That's about it for now... 36 more weeks to go.

Lookin' good. Are you going to take advantage of the streamlined nose allowed in modified roadster or you going to stick with the cut down '32?

I love the ***-Saver(tm)...way too many people think they need to make their Bonneville cars as light as possible...I love the thought of going overkill on safety while also adding ballast to the center of the car...and the grease zerk is a nice touch, not too many folks even bother to think about maintenance of the things they fabricate...good work man, keep it up...

That looks real nice. Hope you can build a roll cage that isn't way too tall.

  9. We're sticking with the cut down '32 shell this year. And then I want to make a nose that bolts on in place of the '32 shell. The way I designed it, the front frame horns and shell all unbolt. There is an air dam in the front too... seen in this pic.

  10. My ears were burning so much in Kansas City the last time we built a T... I promised myself I'd have to peep over the cowl on this one to drive.

The chin guard on my helmet will be below the tanneau cover.

  11. I've been into minibikes... got a few of those going... car wise?

Gonna do my '55 over, then build a car with My Boy Nate and then get my dad's stock Model A driving a little better. In between all that, I'd like to build a rat rod. :D

Wild! I can't wait to see more. There are some many little things about this car that I like.

    What cl*** will it run?

Brent - it'll run V4F/MR - V4 for flathead 4 cylinder MR for modified roadster, either G for gas, or F for Fuel, so that'll be either V4F/GMR or V4F/FMR

Impresive. Your driveshaft tunnel could be in the rule book as an example. Looks like a great car to drive.
