I have a real hard time staying motivated, seems like when ever I start working on a project there is something else out there I see that is totally awesome. Seen a 1950 Ford Bus with a rebuilt engine for 750 bucks, always wanted an old school bus, and I seen a three Checker Marathons in a near by town rusting away in a back lot (another one of those vehicles I always wanted). Anyone else have that trouble......
every day....problem is, I don't have the money to get sidetracked. problem solved. though it is still a mental battle
Got a 36'x96' shop full of unfinished projects.my wife says she just wants to see one of them finished!!!! My latest add frenzy was model a's. Now i own 5 - all in pieces. Wtf is dr. Phil when i need him?
Try to stay medicated ,,er I mean motivated on the one project. Sell it and buy several to start over. Thats what I do but the wife says don't drink so much but it washes down the Bondo dust so well. I wake up the next day amazed at what I got done, lol.
It's easy to see how some people who have the space have a bunch of unfinished projects that they "are gonna fix up some day". I think it's in our blood. Like a good beer, you can't just have one.
look!!What a deal!! That is the sucker punch for me. Have 5 projects with for sure 3 or more somewhere wating. In the last year I gone to tomanyproject anonymous and now I am doing well no new projects....yet!! Seen a cool early 60`s ford truck yesterday for $500 hmmm Sounds like a good deal!!!
Even my hot rod buddies tell me that! I have three cars, a motorcycle, an old milling machine, an old air compressor, and a living room remodelling project, all cutting into my beer drinking time.
Not so much ADD, but alot of times i have to work on my cars on my driveway and my neighbors are so damn nosy---so i don't want to work until it's dark. If i get to work in the garage, then some times i'll "zone out" due to being unfamiliar or not real confident at what i'm doing. For instance, during my recent engine swap, i had real trouble lining the engine up with the trans. i had alot of "zone out" sessions and it took me a few days to get it.
Same boat here, I am 20 years old, in college and have 8 project cars at home. None of which are actually drivable at the moment. There is a 3 way tie for closest to drivable between a '54 International S180 logging truck with no brakes, a '66 Rambler Classic wagon with about a week left of engine in it (rod knock), and an '84 Toyota 4Runner based offroad truggy which even if it was legal I would not drive it since it is a total open cab. The list goes down from there with some being short term projects I want to get to in the next year or so, a few that are either for parts or long term projects. Plus I have 2 tractors I want to restore, and I think there are 3 engines and a trans in the garage awaiting use. My parents love me.
Phil, as I have always told my wife " it's more fun to start a new project than to finish an old one"...just come to the house and I'll prove it...
at 65 years old I can tell you young guys it only gets worse. After 40 you can use the excuse that your doing it for your retirement, but before that it requires some creative verbal jousting with the significant other if she isn't on board with the whole thing. Frank
Always had to sell one to get another. I want ....i want...i want.... one of each. Had too many to list. Wish i had alot of them back. Got one back thou. SMILE.
I'm cursed with the gene that will get me 90% there, then I loose interest and don't finish the project until I need to. For example, I have a really nice Sheldon horizontal mill that I put in a ton of time rebuilding. All it needs to be finished is to tear down, rebuild and paint the gear box for the power table feed. I'm sure I'll get to it some day, when I really need the power feed, but until then it sits 90% done.
I mean really why do i need 5 Chevy Novas? I have 10 old cars, 4 are "done" the rest are long term projects. I'm 23 and I hate selling my cars. I just bought 2 more long term projects, and i think i need to get some professional help. Ive labled all my cars as keepers, but I want to drag more home, but no more room. So Ive decided to start selling the less important ones to me. I sold one today, and I gave another to a good home. Im not even going to get on craigslist for awhile. For me ive kept food on my plate and money in my pocket for awhile buying and selling old tin and parts, do its hard for me to give up my extra income.
I have a bad case of ocd and add ,Once I get started im fine. When I don't get started ,You know the story ,that's why my 32 truck is not done ,Did the firebird first Had the truck 10 years or so .Now Im building a roadster ,Truck is next .I bought alot of parts for truck this year and am also gathering parts for another build ,I cant figure that one out.Need cross member and one backing plate ,For frame and I also need a body ,I really need to consintrate on one car at a time ,Hell I cant even spell concentrate right...
It's a common side effect of the condition. There's an explaination and a cure. I personally don't wanna hear any of it. There's this dickhead over the top of my bathroom sink every morning and he's an enabler. I can't keep away from it if I continue to keep company with enablers. In fact, you're ALL fuckin enablers.
yup you can add me to the ADD list, there is always the other project out there that we want more then the one we are attempting to build
Shit I turned 40 this year and I've been telling that exact line to some friends now and then. I'm at 7 currently...
I have add, its hard to concentrate on anything already, ive got 2 cars sitting that I need to bust ass on but havent touched for over a year.
Read my sig line below. Owned my Stude for 7+ years. I've had it half assed started several times, only to tear it apart & start over. Anybody else come to a point where they think maybe its time to sell & get something that'll keep you more motivated??
My yards full of them.I've had my 47 chevy truck since 1998.Bought and sold several frames and donor vehicles for it.Then you find a quick getter up and running deal puts it further back.
Everybody locks-up. For me, it's helps to take care of other priorities, then the motivation and ideas just happen. I've built 3 cars and working on a new project in the last 3 years using that method.
