My grandfather was there (RIP 2-14-07). He caught a bacteria in his ear from crawling in the marsh water and lost partial hearing. The V.A. denied him benefits for his ear for 25 years and after a 15 year court battle he finally got his benefits from it.

  7. I was hoping someone would start this thread. I'm the product of my folks having one more fling before he went off to war. I never met him.
    Thanks

Today's generations haven't a clue as to what sacrifice is. Thanks to the brave men who answered the call after Dec.7 we can build and drive hot rods (and a whole lot of other things not enjoyed by a vast number of people in the world).

My dad p***ed thru there in 1943 on his way to serve in the Phillipines.
On the way back he had shore leave. The Polynesian culture and atmosphere stayed with him the rest of his life, although he never returned to the Hawaiian Islands.
He p***ed,ironically enough,Dec.7,a few years back.

Thank you to all our veterans and those who serve.

A small story ... about those times.

On Saturday night December the 6th, 1941, my Dad had a date with my Mom. They have been dating for about a year. My Dad asked my Mother to marry him and she said YES. They went and told his parents and then went and asked her parents for their blessing. My mom was 19 years old ... but that was the custom of polite folks back then.

The next morning was Decemebr the 7th, 1941

I would have taken the Pearl Harbor attack as a bad sign ... but my folks decided to move the marriage date up from sometime in a year or year and a half to January 1942. They were married for 37 years until my Mothers death in 1979. I came along in 1948. My Mother was only 56 years old at the time of her death. My Father mourned for her ... until his death in 2004. He served in World War II from 1942 until the end of the war.

I did'nt hear any mention of Dec. 7th on the news today, either.
I'm sure the PC police don't want to offend any of the little babies out there.

Thanks to the vets, past and current, and the future, too.
