I have a motor out of a 41 trk. On the back of the block on top of the bell housing are the #s A10411 The heads are 9T. I have ck'd everywhere including Van Pelt and can't find any info on identifing the yr of this motor. Thanks.
Tranny looks like truck, maybe 4-speed with low granny gear. Are you sure heads read 9T and not 99T? Posted number A10411 doesn't mean anything though. 99T heads were used on '39 through '42 trucks so block may be a 99 series, if so intake may be raised up on the block surface. If it's a 99 block they are very desirable as the castings around the cylinders may be thicker than other engines. Heads may have been changed over the years though. BTW heads are probably different right to left so if you pull them take note. 99T-6049 is right side and 99T-6050 is left side. Valve angles were different each side until 1944-1945 when the 41A and 59AB were produced. A picture of the front showing the distributor may help. See the link below and look at my original post. Ther are 3 PDF files at the bottom of the post. Load them and print them out for your files. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=365715&highlight=heads Jim
On my '49 8RT block there is a date code stamped into the block on the intake manifold surface adjacent the #4 bore. Maybe Ford was doing the same back in '41. Good luck. Mark
Doesn't the Ford rebuilt tag note block number?? Anyway, everything interchanges so can only be ID's as prewar V8 without pulling a head. Head would indicate 99 truck engine, prewar 239, but could be actually on a 221. Pull a head and measure! Then we can spot the differences between '39-40, '41-42-wartime blocks.
Thanks guys, I gotta go out to the barn and ck those heads again. Rebuiild tag does list a block no. 691 and that the rebuild was done at Fargo, ND.
OK: Close shot of where manifold meets block, close shot of front above distributor, shot of either side of block showing area right above pan. That'll date it roughly...then izzit 221 or 239? '39-40 239's will have a "99" stamped on front right corner of manifold surface of block, other years require pulling a head. The 9 heads encourage belief that it is gonna be a 99 block, a real goody. Hey, toss in a shot of back of block where oil lines/sender holes are. Serial number atop transmission part of bellhousing will tell what engine the trans was originally connected to...
