Got some new photos, so I thought I would post them

Here are some shots from the last two weeks or so. We went down to the "Great Oregon Steam Up" in Brooks, Or and had a blast. We (me and the roadster and my friend Chris in his family's '19 touring) went out for an evning drive down to the Weatland Ferry that crosses the Willamette River. We played "Cat and Mouse" along the old hiways, and I have never had so much fun! One or two of these pics are of me p***ing the touring at 65 or so...either way I was flyin'!

    Enjoy!

How many time can people say cool. Well let's add me to the list. MrModelT you car looked so cool in the very first pictures. Then the changes to now increase the coolness ten fold. On top of the looks, the sound out the lake pipe makes me melt. Way to go!

    Redo32,

I am most certainly NOT a morning person myself, but did manage to drag myself out to make it to this show as it is one of my favorites. Thank you for posting those great pics! I have so few pictures of my T "underway".

Glad My old T could make your day!

    Thanks again all!

Here are a few pics from this summer that I have not had a chance to post up yet. These are from the Forest Grove Concourse, the local Lake Oswego Heritage show (got an award at that one :D) and my own fab project to relocate the licence plate bracket....got sick of slicing my hand up on that thing!

I've just stumbled across this thread clicking through some links originally on the New Zealand hotrod forum. I have to say this is one stunning looking car, I absolutely love it.

So not long ago I'm doing some cleaning and re-orginizing in the ol' garage. The roadster is of course in the garage with the top down 'cause I just had it out and I'm trying to lift a few heavy things (boxes and parts) to put them on the shelf.....over the roadster. I ended up knocking down one of my spare wire wheels down..... right into the front seat of the T, but not before it hit the steering wheel...snapping off the cast aluminum spark advance hand lever and shattering the bake-o-lite horn ****on! I was quite pissed!

I was able to score an AWESOME replacement from a friend that was originally from a 1911-1914 White G.A.F. I pulled the whole control rod ***emblies out, made up some adapter bushings and bolted the whole new ***embly in the car. Took a day to do, but it looks way better.....has some great petina to it too!

I'm just glad it worked out as well as it did. I thought I was pretty much screwed as far as finding a new set and these were perfect!

MrModelT, I have a few questions.

How is that rear suspension setup holding up after being on the road for a while?

I have seen these on e bay, know anything about them? From what I have seen in the one example it looks like the bones need to be split (which I would prefer not to do.
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...witem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_500wt_1182

Any suggestions on where to find a Aux trans? what to look under on e bay?

    thanks

    J-man,

My rear suspension has held up great! I check and service the suspension regularly and have not seen any damage or changes.

The brackets you mention are a good design. The are re-pops of the old "Laural Underslung Brackets" produced by Robert M. Roof (Laural Motors Co.) in the teens and '20s. You do not have to split the bones to use these brackets. They were however, designed for early style wishbones (early style bones have just threaded ends that fit through the spring perch on top of the axle and were held in with a nut. Late style bones had a round "eyelet" style end that fit around the the threaded end of the cast perch itself under the axle for better stability) Early style bones can be found or late style bones can be modified to work with the early brackets.

As for the Aux O.D. units, the best bet would be to look under "Model T Ford" or "Model T Speedster". They tend to show up now and then. There were several different makes:

Warford: The most common of the Aux units for T's. Made in both Aluminum and cast iron cases. Aluminum is best for speedsters and gowjobs, but harder to find.

Chicago: I have one of these in my car. Taller geared in O.D. than the Warfords

Jumbo "Giant": a good ******, but not common.

Muncie: I have seen a few of these, but not many.

Rocky-Mountain: These were mounted at the rear axle like a Stutz rather than behind the engine. Very rare, only seen one.

You can also try looking in the MTFCA (Model T Ford Club of America) cl***ified section (they turn up there often) or you can make your own overdrive from a Chevrolet or Chrysler 3-speed from the period. I have a extensive write up on this I will send you if you are interested.

Thanks for the info. I will have to look and see what style wishbones I have. I was thinking of going with the drop front axle like GMC Bubba did on his buy I do not think it is cheap to get this done. The one thing I like about the back is that you do not need to kick the back of the frame up to lower it. I am using a '21 coupe body (will be roadster) and the kick up would take up a decent amount of space in the trunk area.

Just curious, the frame plans I see for the '26/'27 frames seem to be a little longer than the earlier frames, are the drivetrains actually longer (torque tube) or were other thins moved around on the frame?

All the T frames are virtually the same and have the same WB length (with exception of the TT trucks). They changed a few crossmembers in the later frames, But they are all the same dimension wise....so you can interchange parts from almost any year.

Also...You don't have to use a drop axle to lower you car. The brackets you mentioned earlier will accomplish the same thing with a straight that you can with a 4" drop axle....unless you want to go REAL low, than do both. Just keep in mind that the bottom of the "Hogshead" (transmission/flywheel/oil pan housing) hangs down quite a bit and needs some ground clearence.

GMC Bubba had a 5 inch drop axle made for his (if I remember right) and had the brackets as well. He removed the brackets as the car was too low. I think I will start with the brackets and see where that gets me. Snyder's offers a 2.5" drop axle is I want to go any more. I plan to use a stock front crossmember. I want to keep it to where the general non T public will not realize what has been done to it. I plan to us 2x3 to make my frame rather than using a stock frame.

Have you contemplated just doing a sinister chop on the coupe? It's not totally period, but I think a chopped coupe done in this style would be very cool.
