I have a question regarding the service bulletin recommendations on bearing lube on 37 Ford 2-ton full floating rear axle. According to the service bulletins Ford recommended adding about 20oz of grease to each side of the axle. Where exactly am I supposed to pump 20oz of bearing grease? I see that the hubs have what looks like a fill plug in them. Is that where is goes? I'm used to full floating axles being lubed by the rear axle oil and not needing extra grease pumped into them.

Old trucks used greased wheel bearings. Oiling from the diff supply started in the 60s.

OK, So to fill the bearing areas I would pack the bearings just like you normally would, ***emble everything, than pump required amount of grease in through the plugs in the hubs?

So do I have this right?

Looking at it last night if I leave the axle out when I fill the hub, I will be able to tell it's full when he grease starts to push out of the outer bearing.

Im looking at later sources, the '39--46 truck axle book, and the '46 servicing manual. Probably have something closer at home...but these are essentially like your front wheel bearings, just bigger and on a hollow spindle...
You pack'em by hand, like the fronts, and then go through the bearing adjustment procedure. I am pretty sure this will apply to your '37. If there's a grease fitting, it is just for cautious topping up during general greasing, and of course any serious surplus pumped in there will lubricate your brake shoes nicely.
