Extreme attraction to untraveled alleys and overgrown buildings, extreme successes and failures, odd desire for used tires This disorder progresses with age and exposeure and when fully recognized will result in one of the following patterns.......... Buy a car, park it in the driveway, "impress" the neighbors with it, perfect your hand signals, roll down the windows, spend your spare time on it, drive it around town broken, avoid the freeway and the police, impress the homeless and low income with it, sell it to pay bills and buy a project that I "gotta have", then repeat.
My 32 Plymouth, new was $386.00 AND NOW WORTH ABOUT $12,000 + . All the fat cats with their new SUV's and hi end rides that look like devco milk trucks. Hell we got cl***,we are different, we are not cut from the same cookie cutter. cruse down the highway and see a smile and a wave from the kids in the back seat of that ugly SUV.
They come from a time when cars were cars...like art work. I can't tell what anything is today since they all are cranked out be some computer design program. Think about the junk being made today it won't be here in 30 yrs.
Like everyone else, yes I know his paper was due 6 years ago but that's not the only point of this thread... I wrote a paper on rodding for one of my field study cl***es and my final quote was this... “I have always regarded manual labor as creative and looked with respect–and, yes, wonder–at people who work with their hands. It seems to me that their creativity is no less than that of a violinist or painter”<!--EndFragment--> - Pablo Casals
It's a sickness with no cure. Hope they never find one! I drive an old car by choice because like the others have said I like them and enjoy working on them. And it helps me retain my sanity(my wife would probably not agree with that), but it is just fun to be able to build an old car according to my taste and drive it.
I'm really very sick. I can't stop bringing home beaters, engines and other parts. I don't know why I do it. I think it's the magazines I read as a teen or maybe smokey and the bandit. I need help... ...building all my projects
that is the BEST part for me.....nuthing better than talking to a guy 3 times my age telling me how he drove one in high school
Hi young buck, Everything is depends on the interest. We are driving old cars because its like antique . we can not find old cars anywhere so that type of car impress our personality. Thanks for that , Have a nice day.
Because I didn't have to double major in Nuclear physics and nanotechnology just so I could change my oil. Besides, I have yet to see a new car with the level of thought and style that went into the old ones. If the outside looks nice, the inside looks like it was made from Legos (only with more plastic). If the interior is nice, then the outside looks like every other car on the road. Old cars have beauty, they have style, they have p***ion. New cars have a sticker in the window, and 19 cupholders.
I Love old cars,......Old threads are cool too! Hell Im 48 and there are papers I still havent handed up yet.
I seem to have a habit lately of not checking the dates on these threads. LOL. Is this one traditional? How old does a thread have to be before we can put 'Historic' plates on it?
Like all of you have said, soul, charecter,Koolness. I don't care how many time's you try too change these late model egg crate's, they will neve have any of the above, nor will they be around in 23- 50 yrs,no one wants them after they are worn, cause they are junk ,no nothing. Like what Fat Hack said
I know this thread is old, but it is still applicable. We still drive old cars. This actual question was on my mind for a while recently, and I wish I had better words to describe it. Why do I like old cars? What causes me to spend most of my free time and avaiable money on them after working on cars for a living? Initially it was the desire for speed and power in an attractive car that didn't look like everybody elses. In time I found I much prefer the feeling of a skinny steering wheel in my hands, a flat seat under my backside, be it bench or bucket, they're not "contoured" to fit everybody except me. I love the basic connection between driver and road, no distractions, just driving. I love the feel of steel in my interior. Pull/push levers that feel like they are connected to something. Seeing the throttle linkage operate the carbs on a hoodless car. The cackle of open headers. I am connected to the machine that moves me, not isolated and insulated. I work on modern stuff all day and it drives me nuts. It turns on the headlights, locks the door and sets the tempature of the interior to a number in a display all without me needing to do anything. DO NOT LOCK MY ****ING DOORS!!! If I get in a wreck I want the first responders to pull me out and not spend anadditional 20 minutes cutting my car in 1/2. I don't need NAV, satellite, bluetooth and Onstar keeping track of me. Give me a paper map from the glovebox and I can find my way across the country. I don't need 19 cupholders. I don't eat or drink while I'm driving. I have a cell phone with me so the wife can find me. I pull over if she calls. Call it a simpler way of living. All my vehicles are reliable as anything you can buy new. I have 4 old cars. They get routine maintenance, but it's not expensive or time consuming. Look in the owner's manual of a new car. Their services are MUCH more expensive. Rant over. Devin
because i work on new cars all day and want to work on my old stuff and relax when i get home plus the old cars deserve it
also, i don't consider what we have to be "old cars" - screw that. an old car is a ****ty 80's clunker. we have cl***ics, hots rods, cruisers and customs!
I know this thread is old. I drive old cars for the reason it helps me to be a self reliant crudmudgeion. The same reason i have old tractors and grow my own food ect. I dont have to wait on the time and pleasure of others to get something done. All of the other aformentioned reasons are true also just icing on the cake. It is great to be independent and your own person. OldWolf
