I have a '50 Mercury Flathead and a T5 S10 '85-'86 tranny. I'm am looking for a complete parts list to get my car on the road. I've talked to several dealers on the phone and they all tell me a different story. I have a history of buying the wrong parts because someone told me what to buy. Maybe someone out there in HAMB land can give me some pointers on what works and what doesnt. The motor is stock and just for cruising. Its going in a '30 Ford Coupe with a '32 Kiwi frame with the T5 crossmember. Thanks!
Or, you call Gene at http://www.flat-o.com/carproducts/5speedflato.htm and he will give you a list, just tell him what you are putting it in. The only thing you will have to do is bolt it in..................IMHO Or call him at http://www.flat-o.com/contact.htm
So does the T5 have a mechanical speedo? If you don't use it I would love to get it from you but it has to have the mech speedo.
Thanks, I've read most of the T5 info on here. I'm still just a little confused. That Flat-o company looks good. I'll call them. Thanks!
I like the idea of a '39 box. It would really keep it in the correct period. I'm so new at all this. I know a guy that sells rebuilt '39 trannys. What would I need to bolt up a '39 to the Mercury Flathead?
I used a 49-51 Merc steel bell housing and matching starter plate. I saw one on eslay a few days ago. Make sure the starter plate is the one that goes with the bellhousing. I think the early Ford pickup cast bellhousing will also work. If your 50 Merc engine has the bellhousing and starter plate your good to go. Read all the info here: http://www.wilcap.com/flathead.html and here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=4337568
For the t-5 setup, I would go with cornhuskers, its a a great set-up I have one for an 8ba to t-5 setup everything goes together great. Kinda pricey but you dont have to run around finding parts.
Cornhuskers...I'll check them out. I would like to run the '39, but I had the frame built for a T5. So its got the tubular crossmembers like a SoCal frame. Changing to the K member would be to tough for me. I'll try and figure out the T5 adapter.
