Hey guys just finished searching and found a few threads with some pics of scallops but nothing on a chavy AD truck which is what i'm working with. the closest pic i found of more or less what i'm looking to do is this basically i got a 54 chevy truck which i went bare metal on most of the body and black grill, roof, running boards, bumper and such. and i'd like to do dual scallops behind the front and rear fenders. what keeps on happening is when i try and lay down the tape they always come out out of proportion. i dont know which lines are suppost to be straight? and which ones are suppost to angle to make the tip of the scallops? i'd greatly appreciate any all help. i'm hopping to spray them today!!!! tks
Giving a decent picture of the truck in question for Photochoppers to work with would be greatly helpful to help you out.
thanks for the replies. i just went outside and shot some pics of the truck and the best lines i could come up with for the scallops, what do you guys think? should i do the corners curved or straight as is? any criticism would help!!!!!
Looks good. Shoot it, if it don't look right when done, sand it off and try again. What color will you be shooting and will it match rust in a short period of time?
scallops are gonna be black, and no there isn't going to be any "rust" on this truck. every panel that i take down to bare metal i am sealing it with a clear/rust encapsulator. i'm also having a friend pinstripe the edge of the scallops in white after they are done. here is what the scallops for the front would look like if i do the back the way it is, this is just to get a feel for the overall i'm NOT shooting them over "rust":
i think the inside tape lines need to be pulled in a little, thus giving a fatter scallop, possibly round the corners (i like them angled though). also, good to know you aren't shooting them over rust.
you should be using 1/4 " tape, also. you can get nice round corners that way...I goggled, "scallops" and got a lot of ideas..
I think that is lookin real good man! I'm a strong believer in the Less is More theory when it comes to scallops. It might look cool to bring the front ones up, coming off of the headlight, instead of on bottom. Either way though, it should be bad ***!
Just my opinion but I don't think that truck should have scallops.... Too round of a truck to have sharp pointy scallops on it.. Looks like you can tape some nice scallops.. I just think they're too short and don't flow with the fenders of the truck... Once again just my opinion... Hope you get something you like! -Juan
another thing i think would look cool is to the moving the front scallops from the fender to the door, just behind the fenders.
i think you were right about they just dont look right.the truck is too big and round for the type of scallops you are trying to do.also why are you trying to keep them on separet panels?i think you might want to play around with makeing them blend into the ather panels.just my .02c
