I talked to a few of you guys about our plans to develope this idea. Just wanted to see what you guys think. It will be done in polished too, and I hope we will have units available for GM and other Ford mountings soon. It can use the OE fans and pulleys if they are the non-tapered shaft style, and we plan to working on a pully that use the extended shaft for the cooling fan. I really appreciate the input I got from you all, it was a lot of help.

Insides are late model alternator components. Unlike some of the other attempts, where a complete alternator has been modified to fit inside of an OE housing, we have made our own housing. The weakness of installing a complete alternator in the generator housing is heat. It is just 1/4" larger than an OE generator. The unit in testing runs about 10 to 20 degrss cooler than our regular alternators. Unit capacity is a solid 60 amps at idle.

it's a cool idea, better looking than a new alternator, but whats wrong with running a friggin generator in the first place, I've never had any problems with them.

MoePower do you have any images for the mopar unit?

Tentative pricing is $350 for black and $399 for polished. Waiting on some castings to come in to finalize. A lot of oldtimers that droped by at SEMA seemed to like the idea. And yes it is a one wire, but a conventional setup is not out of the question.

Still looking for suggestions for versions

  10. Is it an aluminum jacket/case?
Are you planning on a GM style /mount case as well?

The main body is aluminum, the ends are billet for the prototype, but will be cast when finised.

There are plans to do a GM version, but since the GM OE units were smaller in diameter, and longer, a bit more thought is needed to figure out what we need to change without making it obvious that it is not an OE gennie

  12. Once again we see length is more important than girth [IMG]

  13. What is the lenght of that unit? Cost seems high. Get the price down and I bet you'll do alright. Someone I talked to out here on the west coast is getting close to doing the same thing. Competition is always good.

  14. Theres a company already doing them here in the UK.

    Dynamo wannabe

    Price? £350 or $635. Ouch...!!!

To be honest the other one is alot better on looks and price.

  15. So, why was the alternator developed in the first place?
After Mopar developed it, everybody jumped on the bandwagon and didn't look back.....until now.
Pro's and Cons Alternator vs Generator.
    Talk amongst yourselves.
I'm going for a cup of coffee.
