Picked this up and can't identify what is may be for. Its made by the Yankee Metal Products Co in Ct. Not sure if it is a generic aftermarket mirror or not. Thanks
Yankee was one of the longest lived and prolific aftermarket mirror, light and other automotive accessory companies. I bought a Yankee "Peep" mirror at Elsik's Auto Parts in Pasadena TX for the original 50s retail price of $1.75 because the guy said if it wasn't marked correctly it was his loss not mine. They closed some time after that in the 70s.
Yep, Yankee. Any number of dealerships carried these because they were very attractive back in the day and they were high quality plating for after market parts. Studebaker dealers loved them because of the tri-star look and in fact I have a pair of them on my '53 Commander coupe that were installed by the dealer. They won't show up very well on this picture probably but they are there. Maybe you can tell they kinda match the early '53 nose ornament of the Studes which they refer to as "tri-star". Studebaker got sued by Mercedes that year who said it was their logo and by mid-year there was no more tri-star on '53 Studes.
Got the same mirror on my 1957 Silver Hawk. It looks to be the only side mirror ever put on the car, but it was certainly not an original equipment peice.
