    Jim,
I am a HUGE fan of your lakester after spoting it in the 08 R&C and would love to see some more close-up pics of it. Especially under the hood w/ that inline!

Jman, don't sell yourself short. It's not magic - and it doesn't take a lifetime to learn. I'm no master, but my digger was my first project on this level - lots of guys will teach you what you need to know!!!

I know my project doesn't exactly fit in with the era you're talking, but the metal has no idea of that - start - ruin a couple pieces of sheet stock - learn as you go - lots of guys do it. The ones who try to get you to think it's all black magic are kiddin' you or themselves.

Here is the link to Jimmy's truck that you talked about. He's in the process of making some interior panels for the upholstery now and then on to painting it. He has the color picked out and has painted a test panel and also sewn a panel for the inside. He truly is doing everything himself and definitely scratchbuilt. I will be updating the post as he goes along.

  8. Started with a grill. Narrrowed it to three bars and kept going. Built wooden frame first to get idea. Also built wooden body first . I had a metal guy copy it. Sold the car to Vern Christy and the two of us have worked almost everyday to get it to this point. Body is .050" aluminum.

This is a good question, and I'm glad the replies got past the snark and provided a bunch of examples. I especially like Archie's Speedster and Lakester47's Special. I don't think I would have discovered them without J Man's simple question. I have discovered some cool and helpful threads using the site's search engine, but sometimes it's difficult to ask it the right question.

    Thanx all, and cheers.

and that is why I started a new post rather than search pages of unrelated posts to get to a couple good ones.

Harry Ricardo not only made his own car - he made his own engine (including casting the block, etc.) about 90 years ago.

Here is one from the locostusa board. Not exactly a car, he did not start with a frame and it is not H.A.M.B. friendly, but still awe inspiring.

Caution: do not click on this link unless you have something handy to clean your pants.

The impatient types might want to just go to page 6.
