I have a few questions about where you keep your hotrod??

    Do you rent storage space?

How big is? (1 car, 2 car, or larger)

    About what do you pay?

How long have you had the storage place..

I was giving some thought to the old idea about building or buying a storage place with common areas for hot rod guys.. paint booth you can rent.. Sand Blast area... sand blast cabinets...powder coat ovens...frame machine...air and power, etc..etc..etc..

just curious what people pay and if it would support the added cost of the amenities...

The insurance for that project would kill it.
We looked into just such a project here in the Houston over 20 years ago and the insurance costs plus fire permits etc were astronomical. And that was in a "good" economy.
Storage costs can jack the cost of a project so high so quickly that the cost of the storage by the time the project is completed is larger than the atcual cost of the car and parts and labor.

You gotta consider the incidental expenses... What if the storage place catches on fire, or if they have a rodent problem. Sometimes its better to keep hot rods at home. You also gotta consider who sees you put your car away. Thieves kinda go with rodents I guess.

I thought about the insurance as well.. What if the two were seperate, but on the same property... A building (with supervision) for the Amenities...and seperate storage areas..

I pay about $150 per month for what would be equilivant to a 2 car garage, but it is a normal storage place... My thought is that you could have on campus help..even have disabled or retired mechanics working the (Shop area). People could rent out paint both time or walk over and use a blast cabinet... So, this would be like a body shop and storage place on one piece of property...

    Thoughts??

Don't the Storage Building places make up take up an insurance policy if you want your contents protected?? I would ***ume that there are all kinds of legal language in a contract for storage...

A similar do-it-yourself repair place (no storage) opened recently in Salt lake City. I haven't been there, but it looks like a well run facility. Check out thier website. http://www.wrench-it.com/
