I think most people know that they are voting on the truck portion of the build only. I also think that if any of the people entering can go above and beyond on their build in 3 months, more power to them. Some were able to complete two entirely different cars for the build as well. I believe the playing field is more than fair.

The build was very fun, I can't wait to start the next one. Mine is the custom F100 #14.

My models are #7 ('29 Ford roadster P/U dragster) & #8 (bubble top pick up). Well, I guess my model building style isn't quite up to par with the traditional style on the HAMB, They are just too radical, and too custom. I knew that from the beginning, but I build for me, not votes! But, I was trying to be as differant as possible, I think I acomplished that part of it anyway!

  21. jasonnosaj, varity is the ****e of life and this build off had great varity.
mine is 13 and i didnt get far either, but its all about the fun of the build. im happy with how its turned out, i had a ball building mine and i got the vote from the owner of the car that inspired my build and that was my win.

Congratulations to all who participated. I will get everything taken care of on Sunday for the prizes. Thanks again.

  23. Awesome to see it so close between 2nd and 3rd. I voted for 2nd which was entry #1. I still think in some of the pictures it looks closest to a real car with all the details. Congrats to all the builders on jobs well done.-Weeks

  24. I still can't believe how the vote went to what I thought was too much a street rod for the HAMB, so thanks to all who thought it worthy of your vote.

I've also been quite excited watching the 'fight' for second spot with great anticipation.

I advised Luc thatI'll send this pinstriped toolbox to the victor of that contest.

However, because of the excitement of watching the vote go back and forth with only two points the difference at the end, I've decided that I'll stripe another toolbox and send one to both second and third placed. I'm sure the rest of you will agree that they are equally deserving of a reward for their fantastic models.

This contest has been the best of them so far, with a fantastic display of imagination and building skills. All the participants should be proud of their achievement and deserve congratulations for their talent in putting on such a great show. I've already taken notes on some of the ideas for my own future builds.

Here's the story and some progress pics of my '36 Yoot.

The body is resin picked up years ago at a swap-meet. It was badly pitted and misformed so I never did anything with it until this challenge, when I figured I should build a 'truck' with an Aussie flavour. The body had to be cut apart and 'adjusted somewhat, to make it fit the AMT '36 coupe fenders. Even then, the hood seemed to point uphill which required a little more t******* and filling etc. to get it to sit right.

Getting the stance right involved heating the rear spring on the AMT '36 coupe kit ch***is and bending it to relocate the axle so it sat just a ****teenth lower and the wheels fit the openings more neatly. Up front, the ch***is cross-member was removed and replaced with a fabricated one and the lowered axle from the AMT kit was narrowed to get the wheels to sit correctly in the openings and with adequate 'steering clearance' under the front fenders.

Wheels & tyres are from A Revellogram snapfast '34, 3 window coupe. They were detailed with aluminium, chrome and metallic blue paints for the right look. Behind the front wheels are white-metal disc brakes from the Model Car Garage, with Buick finned drums on the back.

Under the bonnet (hood) is a Corvette 327 and muncie four speed from the AMT '34, 5 window coupe street rod kit. The Fuel Injection unit came from an AMT '57 Corvette kit.

Paint is a Ford colour, Phonecian Yellow lacquer, sort of cross between beige and yellow. It's close to one of the original factory colours and I reckon it suits the '36 yoot perfectly.

The interior proved a little tricky thanx to the variations in thickness of the resin body. Because it just didn't fit, I cut up the AMT tub, then glued the dash and door trims directly to the body which gave a better fit and alignment than the original kit. The seats and floor were then attached to the fenders and after a little trial and error it all fitted up correctly.

I'm pretty happy with the dash detail and woodgraining, even tho it's virtually impossible to see it all.

With respect to the comments about it being out of proportion, fact is the bed opening is perfectly to scale. However, the rolled edge around the back of the lower body is an added 'custom' touch, not seen on an original '36 Ute.

What is not quite right, is the back section of roof, which is more vertical on a real '36 Coupe Utility, however since this body uses the roof section from the AMT '36 5 window coupe, I left it alone a it would have taken up too much time to cut up and adjust it.

After painting the trailer and before it was properly dried, I got stuck in and started the ageing, wear and tear process. Turned out OK, but I may give it some more work (a little rust) later.

    [IMG][/quote]

Originally the trailer was to carry an A coupe, but I figured I shouldn't have a nice finished and roadworthy hot rod on a trailer. So it was set aside and I tested a number of race cars, before deciding on the '34 coupe.

Of course the A was then ignored util the yoot was done and now it's back on the bench to be finished for our hot rod show in January. Here's how it's coming along.

Here's and an old Advert for the unique to Australia '36 Ford Utility Ranchero? range.

Well done to all our entrants especially to Carps for taking out 1st and to Paul for pipping me at the post for second (dunno if it should be mentioned that we're all from the lower half of the world, oops guess I just did lol). Theres a lot of guys on the main board who post in some dang cool stuff the sunday models threads, so come on down to the model section and give us a run for our money. You got nothing to lose and we all have a great time down there.
