last night I bought a 64 Buick Wildcat 4dr with a 401 nailhead. the thing runs like a top and drives out pretty damn good for a land yacht. I didn't have any way to get it home last night so me and a friend are gonna go pick it up in a little while. The plan is to drive it until i finish the chop on my dodge and then the nailhead will go in my dodge and replace the flat 6. Anyone know anything about converting these to an HEI style distributor? I'll post pics when i get it home.
Contact the following guy for a stock look, but killer distributor. http://www.davessmallbodyheis.com/
I'd recommend converting it over to a pertonix ignition. Keeps the stock distributor look but is fully solid state, and never needs a tune. Works fantastically. Skip the coil, though, you don't need it. Not sure the part number for the 401 anymore, call them up and they'll help you out. http://www.pertronix.com/prod/ig/default.aspx
I followed GMC Bubba's instructions and put a mopar reluctor ring and pickup coil in my Nailhead distributor and made my own HEI. Been a few thousand miles without a hiccup. Heres a link to his thread http://jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=319030&highlight=distributor+machine
Man this car is awesome. I can't complain a bit. I've put close to 400 miles on it since i picked it up on friday morning. and i've gotten around 17 mpg on the highway and about 12-13 in town. Plenty of power and the kids can ride in it. I might just keep this car and look for a different motor for my dodge later on. here's a couple picks of it. She's dirty as hell and looks like someones been throwing soft balls at it but i couldn't be happier for $600.
