TAKE ME WITH YOU!!! I hate this ****hole state. If I knew I could make a living we'd be O-U-T! All I can say is that everyone I've ever met from the Austin area has been awesome.

I'd also take Colorado, Oregon or Washington.

Round Rock, although it's about 100,000+ people now, still has a few areas that are cheap, and it still has a small town feel. Good schools, several good restaurants, and pretty low on crime, just north of Austin. Not much activity; Austin is definitely the place for that. Most of the 'burbs around Austin are the same way.

  3. Brewsir I am lookin to leave too prices are off the hook here I dont see how people are doing it ???? seriously I been looking up north though its wet but nice

Dude, I want to do a Billetproof Austin anyway. I said that after Billetproof Detroit went well I'd try Austin. I just need host clubs like in Detroit.

A little farther out of town, but I've heard good things about Georgetown... Might be worth looking into.

Georgetown is nice, but not much goes on there. I know buzzard works there....there is a retirement community there, Sun City,.... and the cop at the DOT station does not like women with tattoos......true story

Check out Kerrville.22,000. 4,2,2 2000 for 180K. Hills, Good schools, hospitals. Hour to San Antonio and hour and a half to Austin. Yes,we have a dirt track. Also the Guadaloupe river. Way better climate than Austin,San Antonio or DFW. I think it is the best mix possible.IMHO

I thought I would chime in a little on the landlord issue. These guys are right about the property taxes. They're high. Probably not quite enough to completely offset the CA income tax, but then it all depends on how much you make here, and how much house you buy there...

Anyways, property taxes aside, the purchase price to rental price ratio is waaaaaaay better in TX than it is in CA.

I just bought a rental 3-2-2, 1300sf home in damn near perfect condition in Corpus Christi for $83k. I have it rented for $850 a month. The same house in CA, would sell for $250k-$300k in the Central Valley, and God only knows what it would go for in the Bay Are or SoCal. But a guy could probably only rent it out for $1000-$1200 in the Valley. Again, I don't know what you would get in other parts of CA.

The point is the initial purchase price in CA is about 300%-400% what it is in TX, but the monthly rent is only 150%.

These are all VERY rough numbers from a guy who ain't too smart, but I think you get the idea.

If I do not get to move there I am stuck in Cali for many years as I have kids in 10th grade,8th,6th....so moving them may be tough for the wife too.....damn women and kids!! [IMG] Anyway...it's not dead yet and I still wnat out of California...just have to convince wifeypoo!
Last night my 11 yr old daughter was looking in the road atlas at texas...she wants a damn horse!

I hope you get out here. Austin is different than a lot of places in Texas. There is a fine blend of cowboy vs. hippy vs. student vs. techie that I can't imagine being anywhere else. And I don't mean vs. as in against each other. Most folks get along pretty well around here.

Granted, Corpus is very different than Austin. But not nearly as different as the Central Valley of California is from the San Francisco Bay Area of California...

Well bro, I can swear to your wife that Austin is nothin' like Witchita Falls. LOL People generally haul *** away from there as fast as they can. I had a girlfriend once that was raised in Witchita Falls so I got the skinny.

Austin is cool. It's too ****in' expensive but if you're comin' from Cali it'll seem like shoppin' in Mexico it's so cheap. But keep in mind, y'all are totally nuts out there on prices so you're probably leaving total insanity for mild craziness. [IMG]

I used to live near Far West and Mopac and tried to work in Austin but had to travel to make any money. I found the day to day prices high and the companies didn't want to pay me much.

You Austin boys don't get me wrong, I love to visit, I just can't afford to live there when I can get a house in Houston for $150k that would cost me $250k in Austin. It's only 3 hours away after all. I mean the only real difference besides the money is that you have to look just slightly harder for easy, bi***ual college girls in Houston than you do in Austin. But don't worry, they're around. [IMG] [IMG]

    brewsir,
You'll be welcomed in Austin! I met you a couple of years ago at the Roundup. Trust me, it doesn't get better than central Texas. My wife and I just bought some "retirement (if that ever happens)" property just west of Austin in the Texas Hill Country. We're planning on building a tiny Hill Country limestone house and a big-*** garage.

I probably would not be looking in Austin...more like "near" Austin. You're right about craziness in the market out here...I sold a house this year that was about a 900 sq. footer ..3 bed,1 bath small garage and tiny lot....250K....and it was on an alley facing a warehouse!

  23. You should check into San Marcos...it's only about 15-20 minutes south of Austin. You could probably even buy rental properties there and make some cash, since there's lots of college kids.

Everything in the area is moving North. Even little towns Northeast like Hutto and Taylor will be absorbed in a couple of years (Sorry Hotwheel).

To me, that would make Buda or San Marcus more attractive. Or even far South Austin. I don't know much about San Marcos, really, but The Barnett may be on to something. It's 20 mins. to downtown Austin and probably 30-40 to San Antonio.

Brewsir...you don't wanna live in San Antonio...trust me. [IMG] Actually it's no worse here than anywhere else, it's just not very "happenin". I'm not sure about the scchools in San Marcus, but it seems like it worth lookin into. San Marcos is one of those "big-small town" kinda places. If my wife's job was available there, we would move there...it's a nice lookin little town with quick access to S.A. and Austin.

Speaking of traffic, has it been getting worse, or do I not get out enough???

It was insane this morning just to pick up a few things from the grocery store.
