Projects I bought 6 F1 Fords to part out, but plans have changed and we are going to build one

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by INLAW MODEL A, Dec 6, 2009.

  1. I stumbled across a guy whose dad died a year ago. He was the old guy that bought old cars and would not sell them period. These truck were not for sale. Apparently that is not his his son felt. I stopped by his house to look at a 50 Chevy car, and he said he had more vehicles at the farm. I was intrigued and went to the farm later in the day. This was about 2 months ago. I bought all 6 F1 ford trucks because I thought I could part them out and get parts to build a Model a rpu. When I got them all to my dad's house, to my suprise he was impressed with them. We immediately got the Black 48 running and my 9 year old son drove it. see the thread here:

My dad convinced me to save enough parts to build 1 truck. I thought it would be a good first truck for my boy, and found a 1948 Ford F7 fire truck with 4400 miles and a rust free body to donate a cab. I decided a flathead was needed so I am now buying some speed parts. I thought my dad would like to help tear down a flathead and I was right. He was bitten by the hot rod bug and told me yesterday he wants to totally redo a flathead with a mercury crank. I have been busy now buying all the flatheads I can find. I never cared for them until now. I was even pondering repowering the Model A with a flattie.
I will keep everybody posted as we build an engine and truck. The first step is to pick a frame and start the ch***is.
Here is what started this project.

Nice score! Good Luck with the build...looking forward to seeing your progress. I think a Flathead in your A is the way to go.

Love that picture of all the trucks.....

    Cool project

When I was 14, helped a buddy combine four mid 60s chevy pickups into one truck. Everything he needed was there, just on different trucks. His dad was kind enough to lay down a coat of enamel and do all the sheetmetal welding. Real, real simple truck that was very nice and stupidly cheap.

Good plan ya got there, except you might wanna consider building two. One that money gets spent on, and one done with used, unrefinished parts.

Make sure you grab the stainless windshield trim and electric wiper. Doesn't look like there's much else left of it.

I could use some of the hood trimwork if you still have some to sell. Shoot me an IM. I am gonna build a 48F1 and it will be rolling before May if it all works out. I have most of the stuff to get it rolling, but the hood is missing all the t*******s.

  14. Well today I was bored so we took apart a truck I recently bought off of craigslist. I need a good frame to start this project and I found one. I need to get the parts I want to keep in order so I can sell off the excess. The truck is pretty bad. The farmer I bought it from had it since the 1960's. It was sitting on a concrete slab so the frame is good still. The rest, not so much. My dad and David are in the 1st picture.

So whadya do with the 337 outa the F-7?

  16. Well it has 4406 miles but is still froze. It is still soaking. I will sell it when I finally decide to hit the truck in the head and take it apart. It is a shame, but there is not a lot of call for these firetrucks anymore.

  17. In my quest for flatheads I managed to trade a Model A banger that was a core for this, also a core, but more usable to our project.

I'm sure there's a museum that would gladly take that fire truck off of your hands and you'd get a healthy tax write off for it... The one I work at would... but were a few thousand miles away.

  19. I bought this truck last fall. I kept the box and the 9" rear end and flipped it.

  20. Last fall the fire truck had an accident. The nuts and bolts came apart with hand tools and they were still plated. There is zero rust.

  21. I was delivering some ot parts yesterday and found 3 f1 truck. I bought 2 of them. This one has very fixable front fenders and nice running boards. The grill is very straight also. I am going to keep what I need and flip the rest.

  24. Geez Paul I had my hands full with one 46' and it looks like you've cornered the market on these babies.... bet you and the kids sure are having fun!

  25. Thats awesome!!I have a soft spot for 48-50s my dad had one when we were growing up and I spent many hours riding in that truck, even learend how to drive stick in it.Once I get my plate clean with other projects I'm going to find one, unless you have bought them all!!LOL Not sure where in Wi you are but I would be intrested in a nice tight F1 steering box for my model A project if you can spare one.
    Thanks Joe

  26. In my quest to find fenders I found a real nice truck. Now we have all the parts we need.

  27. Here is David getting big ideas. The parts are in a storage trailer. He is 11 so we are not quite ready to build the truck, but he is getting the itch. I want to keep it fire truck looking and keep the lettering. He wants to make it an Air Force truck. We may need to build two since we have so many parts now.

Do you have the hood side trims and grill teeth from this truck for sale. Or any teeth for sale

  29. These trucks are drawn to me like bugs to a bug zapper. I wish I could find 40 Ford coupes like this.

I picked up these 3 this week. My boy went with which was cool. I also took my 80 year old friend Willie. He said it has been years since he went junkin'. Now I can build 3 trucks with all the stuff I have. The black one came with new fibergl*** front fenders.

Wow, that '51 panel looks to be in pretty good condition. Are you going to fix that up as well?
