Hi there, I'm lookin' to have a cam ground for my 223 Ford and was just wondering if anybody has recomendations for a good cam grinder?... Thanks, Bobby
I've used Delta Camshaft in Tacoma mostly because they are close, but they do good work, are easy to deal with, are reasonably priced and have a very fast turn around
Berry Cams in Minnesota is good. I have had them grind a few. Never had any problems until we lost our good oil! http://www.berrycam.com/ CJ
I don't know the availability of blanks for the early OHV six, so it's possible that you will need to have your existing cam reground as opposed to just buying one out right. I would suggest giving some of these folks a call...there are others out there as well. Some guys that specialize in vintage engines: http://www.nielsoncams.com/ http://www.berrycam.com/ http://www.deltacam.com/
We used to send the v6 cams to Crane and have them welded and reground , but not an option right now . Did you try Engle cams , they been at it since it started . Howards cams , prices are good on new ones so they may do regrinds resonable too .
Yes, Demi can get it done for you, he's got a real detailed form on his site that asks all the right questions, and he grinds accordingly.
Elgin X3 I spoke to Delta about what they offered, and got back "we're so smart, we know exactly what your engine needs without you telling us". Not impressed.
Try Elgin Cams in Santa Rosa, Calif. They are not part of Elgin Industries - the guys who sell inexpensive go fast parts. Elgin Cams specializes in restoring antique and hard to find cams along with grinding new ones for the circle track crowd including Indy. They have pattern masters going back to the fifties. They will regrind yours, or build you a new one Dema Elgin (the founder) still does custom specs for unusual builds. He sold the business to his employees when he retired. But he still works afternoons. He will spec a bump stick for your build, but he'll want a fair bit of motor info.
Speak to George at Clay Smith Cams. He ground me his 265 duration cam on a new billet. Runs like a champ, a little lopey, still gets great gas mileage. And she'll bark through those straight pipes plenty good when you stomp down on that last pedal to the right. Highly recommended.
