HAMB Member Lightning is the son of Road Runners member Jim Ratledge who join in legendary SCTA club in 1947. I recently stumbled onto the documentation of Jim's pics & timing slips from those early days by Jack (aka Lighning). Outstanding---cool to share with us!! Nice speeds, so close to the magic 100 mph mark. Teriffic!! ~sololobo~
great stuff, I've seen these on the Road Runners site before great reference. Love this modified, Ralph Schenck owned, part of Albata club built in the mid 30s. Jim's Speed Shop was owned by Jim White who was among the first to use flathead V8s at the lakes he also ran a Hudson powered modified. Jim changed his name back to Harrell after the war and with his brother Nick made Harrell speed equipment. Jim & Nick was also involved with the 60s drag weapon "Winged Express".
As a proud member of the Road Runners I was delighted to see this. So much of our history (both club and LSR) has been lost it is great to see such wonderful photos etc. surface. Thanks so much for posting them.
I don't know how I missed this thread - but , just a slight correction - I am Jim,[ Lightning] and Jack is my Dad, who was known as Doc - he was a Chriopractor. These are pictures that my dad had in an old photo album along with his original car plaque and a white T-shirt with the Road Runner logo and name from the Road Runners S.C.T.A. I will post more of some old pictures when I come across them .
Again, ,many thanks for posting the photos. I have a request. Could you post a photo of his plaque? I have a reason for asking. Our current plaque is said to be based on an early plaque (as designed by Wally Parks). It would be nice to be able to compare. Particularly as your plaque is a known plaque. [/IMG]
When we moved into our new house, all of my Dads stuff was packed up and stored and we haven't got around to unpack the stuff that was in that room, but as soon as I start going through all of the stuff and find it ,I will post up some pics and the plaque.
