It's funny how the hero has difficulty starting or keeping the Willys/Hemi running, yet he continues under increasing odds and runs with the big dogs?
Hot chick, funny guy w/ a Studebaker(ain't they all?) and bits of racing footage.
    Suprise ending.

The movie is "Hot Rod", but the later made-for-TV 1979 film. There was also a 1950 "Hot Rod", but featured flathead powered '32 roadsters, and might be the first Hot Rod movie ever made.

Not to get OT, but since you guys mentioned Willys . . . I remember a pretty decent made-for-TV movie about '74 with Gary Busey ("Buddy Holly Story," him) as a young guy with a fast Willys America coupe. Everybody in this small town is after his ass all hrough the movie. But he wins out & gets the girl. Anybody remember this besides ME? It was on network TV.

  10. Sounds like the same flick, but the actor was Greg Henry, not Gary Busey.

Great movie, I tend to watch it at least once a year.

Coolstuff has it if you need it.

Lots of great lines in that movie also, and the guys in Knuckledragger are fans!

The name was HOTROD , aka Rebel of the Road .
He drove the 41 Willys and 426 Hemi that he got in a junkyard dirt cheap . His name was Brian . A black guy from a speed shop gave him the blower to use and told him if he beats Sonny Munn then he can have the blower for free . Kool movie and some good drag races from the old Fremont dray strip . I was made for TV back when TV was good ! The dvd you can buy is a copy because they never made it as a movie to be released . I got mine off Ebay a couple years ago .

ExWestRacer & you other guys, THANKS!!! NOT Gary Busey, Greg Henry. It was one of those movies you see on TV and liked. Then, years later, you wanna see it again, and ya can't remember the damn details!!! So, how do you buy a copy when you don't remember the key stuff! Duh! LOL

    THANKS again!

Bringing this back up. I wish I knew the soundtrack list to this movie - anyone know some of the songs from it? They are not listed in the credits as far as I know.

I know Buddy Holly Rave On, but someone tell me the rest...

Those "Made-for-Tv" movies back in the 70s were good movies. And there were all kinds of movies from car movies to tear jerkers. Those movies were one of the few things I enjoyed about the 70s. I hated the fashion.

I picked up the VHS of this many years ago at Hollywood video.
they had to order it,and it cost me close to $60.00 back then, this was prolly 1986-1989

  22. Use IMDB.com to track down the name of the movie, then watch around - there's a lot of bootleg stuff out there that's crap quality, but better than nothing, I picked up a terrible movie about Lee and Richard Petty - that actually has Richard in it - from about 1974, looks like it's made from a VCR recording, a movie I didn't even know existed.

BTT - anyone know some of the songs in this movie?

    I have found:

    Buddy Holly - Rave On

Don & Dewey - I'm Leaving it all up to you

Jerry Lee Lewis - Great Balls of Fire

I'd really like to know the song as Brian Edison and the Disckjockey are just arriving in town - where the guy is flagging everyone at the intersection. Its kinda hard to find a song by searching for bobba bo bo bo bobba bo bo bo... :D
