just got a model A truck all new to me i've always had chevys need to know if the centre steering cloum will come out of the steering box while in the truck need to shorten the length
Are you asking if the steering column will disengage at the box and come out of the truck without removing the box from the frame? Vice versa? Be a little more specific about what you need to do and Im sure someone can help you out, mate.
The shaft comes out the bottom in one piece. The jacket is removable if it is the 2 tooth gear. You need to remove the whole thing if you want to work on it.
Sorry. My mistake. On the two tooth ther shaft comes out of the top of the box. Take the jacket off then the angled bolt with the lock nut holds the upper race (the part the jacket is clamped on) in which holds the worm and bearings in. The sector shaft may have to come out first, not sure. On the seven tooth the shaft and worm comes out the bottom.
thanks everyone I have a better idea now if I can slide the sector shaft out a little it looks like the steering shaft and bearing will slide out the top
