So I took the roadster out to the 75th Deuce reunion. I meet Ken and Keith from the rolling Bones, also Matt and Dennis from Ionia Hot Rods..……….Look what happened ………. Well Bob a friend of mine wanted to build a hot rod chassis so this is the results a lot of influence from the Bones Boys and Iona Boys with a little of my own …….

Denny and Matt Lesky owners of the Ionia Hot Rod Shop are the salt of the earth. You'd have a hard time finding nicer folks.

    Your chassis looks great. Congrats!

That looks great. Almost too nice to cover up with a body.

Is that 5w getting plopped onto that bitchin' chassis? Looks like a super clean body.

Looks very cool.I like using Ionia's holey stuff too.

But I do have a question.
Why have a open driveline when your are using a early Ford trans
    and a banjo rear end,
Why not keep the simple torque tube?

    Just wondering..

I have a question... I'm building a similarly styled front end and I'm trying to figure out the best way to mount the radiator when there isn't cross member over the front axle. Your setup is the second I've seen where there is just a little 90 tab on the end of each frame rail and I can only assume that's where the radiator mounts. Is that all you're using to mount the radiator? The other car I saw that was like this was built by Ken and Keith so I can only assume it works because those guys obviously drive the shit out of their cars.

Also, the tabs look a little higher up than the top of the frame rails. What are you going to use for a radiator?

    Thanks!

The radiator mounts are very close to the same the Rolling Bones Guys use , The radiator is 2" shorter then stock

This one sits a little higher then the Bones cars and that may or may not be because of the engine weight not being there but I like the way it sits right now.

I'm sorry to throw a wrench in your thread, but I bought a Rolling Bones chassis for my 3w, and with the lengthened front shock arms, the shocks don't work like they are supposed to...not enough travel at the shock to dampen.

The front end bounced around alot. I'm friends with the Rolling Bones guys, and I'm not putting them down, but the shock arms need to be shorter(as in original length) like Henry designed them, to work correctly.

I understand the reason why they located the shocks inboard where they did...the frame is too narrow to move the shocks forward any more than they are...hence the lengthened shock arms.

The solution is to mount the shocks on the outside of the frame where they were in the beginning using stock shock arms.

The shocks were mounted inboard to clean up the frame for asthetic purposes.

Ken Schmidt stopped at my house on his way back from California in Keith's coupe, and we found one of the lengthened shock arms broke in half. We took one of my shock arms off my coupe and put it on his so he could continue to New York....just my .02 cents

That is a pretty thing. Just how does the rear end articulate, like when one tire drops into a pot hole? Looks like the clevis' on the rear would bind up and something up front under that crossmember would have to rotate. And the whole rear is located from that same point, an area about 8X8". Looks to me when one tire drops into a pot hole the upper trailing arm would drop and have to get longer or something or else it'll act like a sway bar and try to lift the other tire. Have you played with this with a floor jack? Whats under that plate at the cross member? Can you take that off so we can see?

  27. Beautiful fab work -- and some good questions here, too. Thanks Larry for the insight on the shocks. Dennis Varni wound up changing out his shocks, too, when he got his Bones sedan back to CA.

I've never seen a steering arm handled this way, welded to the spindle. Any fears it could bust loose?

Can you post some more pix of the radiator mounts?

Also is there a part# on the front spring or can you measure it for me. I'm working on a similar set up for my model A

    thanks

Nice chassis, body and mock up. The piece of Art should not see a MN Winter. Keep posting pictures as work progresses.
    Thanks/
