Ok, I'm stashing a spin on filter inside of an old aluminuim filter housing.. My problem is I need a shorter filter than what I have here at the shop.. The shortest I've got that fits is a Parts Master 61042... Is there anything shorter? Thanks, Bobby
A couple of years ago I ran into the same problem with a Pinto 2.0 engine. After much searching and measuring, I discovered that every filter that I looked at had the thread size and pitch stamped into the base! It was then a simple chore to find the smallest filter that had compatible threads and base diameter. Ended up using the 90's Saturn filter. Bill
Well my housing is a Reclaim-O.. It's an old aluminium deal I got off a Farmall Regular, possibly from the 40's.. It used cotton waste as the filter element... I've taken an extra olds filter base cut the angle off so it sits flat, and machined the center out of the filter housing.. So now all I need to do is hook lines up and weld the base down... But before I do that I need to find either a shorter filter (so I can get the lid on the housing) or a shorter filter base and threads... I was looking at this... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Perm...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories But I'm unsure of 1 thing.. Does the filter seal against that ring? If I could use this I think it would solve my filter height issue... And for those wondering this is basically a remote filter, just trying to hind the spin on in a cool housing..
short one for olds also pontiacs would be late 60's mid 70's . but are larger diameter the filter for later 307 is thinner size, it seemed like the 301 Pontiac had a tiny filter in my Grand Am .
