With this new gas that goes stail after a month or so, what is the best fuel additive to put in my car for the winter? I did a search and found a couple threads about people putting it in, but nothing really on the best brands to use. What brand do you guys prefer?

  2. Step one is not to buy fuel that contains ethanol.

Most of us in the NorthEast are stuck with 10% ethanol in most of the gas we have available.

I have several seasonal vehicles,a stock old Chevy 6 and a built SBC.I just park them in the garage around this time of year.I add nothing to the fuel which is 10 percent ethanol around here. The only thing I do is charge the batteries occasionaly.Around end of March I start them up after sitting all winter.Takes some cranking to fill the carb, then they fire up and run normal enough.I somtimes prime the carbs just so the engine fires up faster. The 50 Chevy truck even has a old fuel pump not affected by the ethanol gas as many say it will.I also have no fuel problems with the older ATV,cycles or whatever.

  10. Down South, we can get real gasoline at some stations...Shell for one.

oregon is a 10% ethanol state. only "offroad" amd marine can run regular...if you can find it :( I use the Stabil ethanol formula and it seems to work

  12. Marine Quality Sta-Bil has a lot more protection for around the same price.

The more ethanol(grain alcohol) it has in it, the less likely it is to go stale.........:D

  15. And the more likely it will suffer water contamination.

I'm aware of what stale gas can do,as in stuck valves ,bent pushrods.
But I'm not having problems, and Western NY state has had 10 percent ethanol for about 6 years. My older engines all have good cylinder pressures, tight guides and hot ignition systems.Maybe this makes a difference, may not.But if I was having problem, I would be whining like a fuck weasel.

I'm another one who uses Seafoam in everything gas-powered, from the daily drivers, hot rod, lawn mower, weed eater, etc.

I have been using StarTron for a couple years now. Idaho is also an ethanol state and it sure helps to get my mileage back. This stuff was designed to be used in boats to cancel the ethanol effects but works well in my rods, lawn mowers and etc. I buy it at Wal-Mart in the marine dept.

I store 4-5 cars plus motorcycles through a five month winter. Seafoam into a full fuel tank. On vehicles where I can drain carb fuel bowls, I leave them open. Floats hanging do not groove carb needles. They all start right up. Leave the batterys in with unhooked cables. Not a problem in 20 years.

The ethanol has bad effects on some motor injector seals. The rules are all major cites must use 10% including contiguous county's. We are in the middle and still have access to old fashion gas. The ethanol cost us 4 to 6 miles per gallon so we use FPC additive which increases out mileage. You can google it and find the site and it does work. If I have to store I use staybill
