I need to know the Tune Up Data - plug type and gap, timing degree info, point gap and dwell if you can. I can't find it on the internet and keep finding sites that want to infect my computer.
    Thanks, Jim

  2. You'll be looking for a long time since they stopped making 396 engines long before 76. Best to try to figure out by the numbers what the engine is actually out of and go from there. This only helps if it's still completely stock. For example plug gap will be bigger if it's got an HEI.

Opps! The car is a 1967 Chevelle with a 396 engine. I transposed by mistake. Let's start over.

Plugs R44 or 44t, gap at .35 timing 4-6 BTC, points .19,dwell 29-31.Should put you in the ballpark. Find the year of the motor & might get closer.

  7. Stuff like this is why I keep a few Motors (Chiltons also work) annual Auto Repair manuals around.
