that is the best couped pop ive ever seen they're normally god awfull 70's attempts ya know what im talking about could have a nice mini pierson bro's coupe replica there ha
An update, new rear radius rods & centre crossmember. Centre crossmember notched for the rib on the back of the T5. 32 style front engine mounts finished, so I could keep the cross steer box. Human Fly - sorry mate not for sale unfortunately, as they are earmarked for the next project Junkyardgenius/Von Merkin - the black one is ugly as sin - but looks like the old dear at the front is going weak at the knees looking at it, bless her
Please please tell me you have sussed out the rego of this uber cool coupe. What a great looking car!
Hi Bob, When I built the body on this car for my mate Danny (more than 25 years ago so bare with me.) I actually shortened the doors 3" (you said I lengthened them) I chopped the roof 6" but I moved the screens up into the roof a couple of inches so that we did not end up with slits, this was to make the side screens and windscreens better proportioned. I removed the body swage from the doors and remade the sides of the scuttle to better resemble a 30s body. I filled the roof and made an new boot (trunk) lid from scratch. I was trying to achieve a traditional hot rod look, or a lakes look so the Pierson's bros car is a good guess. I cut the front of the ch***is off and built it to resemble an earlier car, I built the suspension and mounts for the rear and mounted the Ford Pilot axle on the front end after I had 'Dago'd (dropped) it using a blowtorch and a sledge hammer. Rebuilt the engine and box and mounted them also. (all on a very small budget) Later I made the grill, bonnet and rear wings very quickly to help get it on the road for Phil who had bought it from Danny by this time. The car was never finished but was brush painted in red oxide. Although it was not done to the standard I work to now it has never had any plastic filler put in it and has a good finish which should not really need any. That is cool, though I think it needs a 34 grille, or some grill that leans back. That one looks too abrupt for the nice lines of the coupe. Doc.
Thanks for the replies, fellas. Dave - you were right about the doors they were shortened but then again you should know seeing as you built it. Nick, I'm getting there slowly, quicker if you were here to give me a hand, fancy a holiday??? Drewus - I know - time is rapidly diminishing, fingers crossed, I'll be driving it. I started plumbing the brakes yesterday & made some brackets up this morning before work (6am) Lorodz - they're leather belt buckle straps not latches. Doc - I'm still unsure of the grille cheers Bob
That is one sweet ride. I can't wait to see it finished. Do you have plans for paint or finish on it? If so, what ya thinkin?
WOW, that is one sweeet coupe. Love it. I probably would've kept it like it was, but -------who knows? Perley
Yeah Dave & others, here's more of an update, headers made, car wired, exhausts nearly finished - note the use of existing cherry bombs. Dash holes welded up so I could drill for more gauges, engine turned panels made. I've had to alter the pedals slightly (sorry no pics) I've had to use two brake pedals (forged not cast iron) as the clutch pedal needed heating for adjustment. I'm currently making the floor & gearbox tunnel from steel sheet. And when I was stuck at a road accident on the way home from work I made a list of jobs left to do - only 64 left. Enjoy.........
Hi Bob.That's the nicest couped Pop I've seen.Great build and nice work on the headers too! Cheers, Mark.
Wotcha Bob! Any more progress on the coupe? Its been the best part of thirty years since I built the body I just can't wait to see the thing finished even if you did ship the f~~ker half way round the world. The Flathead looks right at home in there. Come on Bob get it done! David
I've machined the flywheel to take a later model clutch, saving myself a good few pounds in weight. The steering shaft is in & working. The floor is nearly finished. The boot floor is in. I've been making a back panel that goes between the cab & the boot area. At the moment I'm contemplating putting in a bench seat rather than using the original seats. I've also been making up some louver dies so I can punch the hood & sides, but they're not finished yet. Work is progressing, though a bit slower than before. It's hard juggling work, family life, restoring an old house & doing up an old car. I need someone to come & have a holiday & help me finish it, what do you reckon Dave???
Looking cool Bob. Looks like it's all coming together now. What will finish first.... The Car or the House??
Bob I would love to- but I have the same problems!, plus trying to run the business. Your fault for moving so ****** far away! Just thought I would give you a nudge!. David
