Im no writer so excuse my bad grammar and spelling I just had to do this. Ever since I can remember my Pops and Uncles had Customs,cl***ics,Bikes and Hot Rods.I remember 2 convertible 57 t birds he use to have when I was real young and than he got whats now my 48 Chevy.Ive seen pictures of him on a cl***ic Triumph Bonnie, and standing wiping off a cl***ic Caddy with huge wings in his white tee shirt, cigs rolled in the sleeve and all.Hes told me storys of wiping down his dads car with oil on a rag when he was a kid to make it shine. He is a true car guy and he p***ed it on to me.For the last 13 years hes been battling luekemia and congestive heart failure and winning with the cancer going into remission for many years.Although very ill hes been to every cl***ic car show in MD that he could get too never missing a beat and racking up more car show trophies ,plaques ,and tags than I could count.HE never stopped.Even after he got even sicker he gave me the 48 thinking he wouldnt drive much longer.Well a few months later he mustered the strength to buy himself a 69 Buick Riviera and went to a bunch more shows.Well now the cancer has come back and it came back ten fold and he is now fighting to make it to Christmas. They can no longer treat the cancer and he is on morphine daily to keep him comfortable.I got the news yesterday he may have only 3 weeks instead of the 6 months we were told at 1st.Hes home now with Ho****e and I am on my way tomorrow to be with him till the end.The last time I was there my family was going to sell his Riviera for expenses to come and I about lost it.My wife agreed to buy the car for me as the scentimental value of pops last car is too much to hand to someone else that didnt know him.Im sorry bout the sad story but I had to tell his story. My Father is and will forever be part of "Lost in the Fifties"Custom Car club in MD.His name is George Sakeman-Thanks

All the best to your father and family. I lost my father to cancer back in 1992. Like yours, he was a lifelong hot rodder. Only the memories we made together and my faith that he is in a better place have gotten me through the tough times.

I have to bundle sorrow & happiness together for you. Sorry to hear your father is in such bad shape but happy to hear of your long strong relationship with him & all the great values he was able to impart to you in his time.
You also are a great son for making the time to spend with him.
While the body may give way & return to dust, George the man will live on as long as you & his friends hold his memory in your hearts.
    Godspeed George (you done good)

    Thoughts and prayers.

The time we have p***es like turning the pages of a book, for some of us long novels for others short comic books (but its whats written in the margins that counts most)

Is he able to take a couple more rides? Maybe for a burger run?

  16. My heart goes out to you. Even if your dad may not be able to go for a cruise perhaps there's a box of old family and car photos somewhere. I'm sure his struggle will be eased just by having family around.

Sorry to hear about your Dad. I'll be praying for you and your family. During these last few weeks try to remember and enjoy all of the good times you've had and all that was learned from your dad. Don't focus on what you can't change.

Best wishs to you and your family, I bought my dads 66 dodge truck when he died kept it until it rusted away 20 years later. Missing him is something I still do, small reminders bring him back to mind in a instance. Enjoy your days together and celebrate his life

    rattlepopbang,
My heart goes out to you and your family. I lost my dad to cancer in 95 and this time of year is very, very hard. One of the last things we did together was go out for a ride. I took him by the farm where he was born and raised with his many brothers and sisters. Remember that even if you don't get to take him being there with him is what he needs. May god bless you and watch over you. He is always going to be with you.

My prayers and concern go out to you and your family. Be close to your father during these last days and as long as it is possible keep sharing all of the memories you have about the life he lived. Sounds like he lived a full life and I suspect he is prepared for the life to come. Stay strong for him at this end time.

I also lost my dad to leukemia, acute myelogenis to be exact. He was 34, I was 11, now 24. Losing your dad is one of the HARDEST things you will ever go through. If he has any last wishes that are possible at all DO IT and F everybody that tells you no. My dads was just for a cold budweiser, a nurse was trying to tell us he could only have non alcoholic we told her to F OFF AND MIND HER OWN and went and bought a 6 pack for him, even though he only drank a couple.

I hope for you and your family's sake that he gets to see the new year.
