Im looking for recomendations on wich book would be better for putting a model a back together.Its not a restore,of course,so Im looking for one that goes pretty in depth on the body and sheet metal.Book name and where to get it would be great,Thanks.
Floyd Clymer had the BIBLE on Model A restoring. actually several versions... but that's the publishing world for you. my dad had four or five of these books and for the most part they were, IIRC, almost direct reprints of Ford technical books. i'm certain someone in the old book biz has some copies.
There is a gold colored book that is VERY useful, has lots of pics of partially assembled bodys. Shows where wood, and brackets go. All the useful stuff. The title is { The Ford Model "A" "As Henry Built It" }. I won't knock the Clymer books, Theyre good also.
There are two "A" books that I constantly use. One is a collection of Ford Service Bulletins from 1928-1931. There is a ton of good info. The other book is the MARC/MAFCA Judging Standards. This is a loose leaf binder that helps to identify parts and pieces. Both of them are available from Bert's Model a in Denver 800/321-1931. There is another set of books that covers restoration projects like wood installation. In that set there is a good volume on Model A speed equipment. When you call Bert's, ask for Steve or Phil and ask for their choices.
Old Ford factory parts books are good too,,nice exploded views of stuff,,always helpful yo have when rebuilding
Since you're out west, get a copy of Sacramento Vintage Ford's free catalog. There are tons of books listed there, including great ones from the MAFCA. You can probably get at least some of them from your local library through inter-library loan requests to see if you like them or to copy parts of the book you need. You can also lurk or ask questions on the AACA Ford forum, Ahooga or one of the other Model A sites
