Has anybody used front/rear springs (leafs) other than those designed for the A? What I'm saying is that if other leafs are available that match the length/weight requirements, could they be utilized? Just thinking out of the box on this one... I know the rear has a pretty unique arc, but other than that?

I'm sure there are others that would fit, but Ford was one of few (if any other) manufacturers that used a transverse spring setup. Most parallel leaf springs are set up with the center bolt offset slightly toward one side of the spring. Not really applicable to a transverse setup.

Some people have used trailer springs...but they look like they might be a little stiff to me. Never used one though so I can't say for sure.

Tbird...thats an interesting thought that I don't think I've ever seen here on the HAMB! :)
DID any other manufacturers use a beam axle/transverse spring I wonder????
I can't think of any, other than early versions of IFS.

Yeah, nothing on topic that I can think of, I just didn't want some know-it-all joker jumping down my throat because his corvette or 90's pontiac or whatever else they used them on has one on the rear or something.;) I'm pretty sure I've seen them on some early electric/steam cars and other oddball early stuff. Never paid enough attention to remember for sure though...

Original and even repop A springs are so cheap and plentiful, why bother wasting the time/money to find an alternative?

  7. I have a 34 Ford front spring in mine. People might tell you a T spring fits in the rear(and in the process lowers your car), but it's actually 1/4" narrower so requires some shimming up in the A crossmember to stop it moving around.

The only shimming required when running a T spring is to match the tighter top curve of the T spring to the broader curve of the A crossmember. Once the Ubolts are tight, the spring cannot rock or move fore and aft.

The 32-34 spring differs from the Model A only in the larger spring eyes.

Thanks for the input guys... ended up picking up a Speedway front spring from a local guy so I won't have to source out something after all.
