I really hate doing this because it takes up so much band width. Im looking for pics of some homemade truck beds. Might be a long shot but Im about to try my hand at forming one up for my 32...
model a bed, channeled 3 inches, hidden tail gate cables in rear u channel, hidden tail gate latches , frenched lights
I didn't have a break so I made drawings from a 34 bed and had a sheet metal shop bend up the metal including the subframe.(10" shorter than stock) Then I ***embled it. I cut and welded the stake pockets like the Fords. I used 3/4" plywood for the floor. I'd use planks if I did it again. I bought the repro tailgate and hardware. I wanted it to look as close to stock as possible. That was about 25 years ago and it's still in use today.
Here is my old '32. Very simple aluminum bed made of 4 pieces of aluminum riveted to a square tubing frame. I had the sheetmetal guy bend up the bed rails and I punched the 300 some odd louvers on a friends machine and rolled the beads in. No floor or working tailgate, as the truck was originally used strictly as a drag racer, but would have been easy to design a floor if necessary. Mick
all very good pieces of Great inspiration... Curbspeed whats the story on the taillights. Im liking them...
I used 39 or 40 Chevy front turn signal housings. Took 4 to make up the two. A little slicing and dicing and blamo! Space bullet taillights!
I had sides and a front panel bent from 16ga for my '26roadster p/u box, 2" taller than stock, welded 3/4" sq. for the rail. made the saddle, stake pockets and tailgate 2" taller and shortened the original T bottom rails and ***embled it with polished s/s ****on heads.
These pics aren't the best, but they're of the bed I built for my 33. It's a tube frame with break bent panels and corners.
While we're talking about beds, what about stake pockets? I really liked the stake pocket shaped flat plate on Royce Gladers "loaded" P/U, anybody else think those were pretty OK?
steak pocket I have been woundering how i was going to make them. how big are they 2x2. great thread bret
Damn man, you need just a few more great cars in your stable Truck looks great too I'm gonna by doing the same thing on my pops 39' dodge p/u soon, so this was inspiring. This is as far as we got on his before we skipped to other things on the truck was cardboard hehe
Hey MF, are those something like a pizza pocket????? I formed my stake pockets out of sheet stock, tacked on some fake rivets and then welded them to the side panels of the bed. All four corners were built thesame and look like front pockets, but it worked for me. dodgerodder, thanks. I built that truck in about 7 months and had a ball with it for a bunch of years. I had to sell it a month ago to make room in the garage and fund the new project.
Here is mine for my 37. Cut and bent the sides, welded square tubing on for the upper bed rail, angle was welded on the inside to bolt to new bed mounts. Front panel was made, welded in place then added the angle and square tubing. Bed pockets were made to match the curve of the cab, three pieces each and welded together. Buying some repo pieces or bending simple squares would of been a whole lot easier.
made this one for my stude roadster pickup out of 18 gauge cold roll and 49 ford pickup fenders 8 ft long worked out great with an alum cover and wing ...
My homemade box. The stake pockets are re-pops, the rest I made...except the tailgate, which may or may not get built this summer.
