i have a 61 c10 i want to relocate gas tank under bed what is the best tank to use to do this how much of a project is this thanks
Hey man, there are several way to do this, LMC has a tank kit you can purchase, I didn't car much for it after I got it home and started looking at it, it seens to tall if you will. I opted for a tank from a 65 mustang, about the same amount of work but it fits nice under the bed and does not hang down below so far. Just looks a lot better.
ya i looked at lmc kit wasent happy with it.(also they want a little to bit money for it) im tall and my seat adjustment is all the way forward and it hits the gas tank when i try to move it back. i did slight mod on tilt bracket and got like a half inch but im still way up on the stering wheel.(also had to buy smaller stering wheel i was hitting my legs trying to turn wheel
I guess you missed the part about the Mustang tanks, they are about the only ones that work with little modification. I suggest you use the SEARCH Funtion, there are many threads about it, Also there is a special group here, look up 60 - 64 Chevy trucks, there you'll find all you need to know.
I have a 55 Chevy 2nd series. I used a 78 Jeep cj7 tank. I had to make some spacers to keep it down about an inch or so. But it fit perfectly between the cross members at the rear. Not sure how similar the frames is to yours but it could be the same. I even used some scrap stainless steel banding for the straps. The tank was used , so I painted it up. I am very happy with it.
I needed a stock tank for my Falcon, and at the parts store, Melvin through me the book. It had all dimensions including the flanges. I bet if you measured available space and started with the Mustang/Falcon/Fairlane tanks you could pick out one that would be damn near perfect in 15 minutes.
I am over 6' and couldnt move back far enough either. I bought a poly tank from mid fifties( complete kit cheap). I removed old tank ,stoppers for the seat back and adjusted brake pedal down a bit. I gained 3-5 inches in seat and a much better transition at the stop n go.
